Position Summary
Ipsos Observer has a position available in our New York, NY office for a Director, Business Development. This position is key to continued business and market growth as the Director will be responsible for securing new clients and growing existing client business.
Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to establishing and cultivating relationships with senior market research executives as well as, being responsible for full-cycle consultative selling, to brands across all major categories, consulting firms, ad agencies, market research, data collection, and sampling companies.
The Director must be able to communicate the details of a study: methodology, incidence levels, questionnaire structure, quotas, technical requirements, project timelines and budgets of each project. The ideal candidate is one who has proven experience in leveraging their market research expertise in a sales capacity. This is a salaried position, but is an excellent opportunity well-suited for an individual who is motivated by a competitive commission plan (in addition to salary).
The role requires an independent, self-starter with a consultative selling style who is capable of building positive and collaborative working relationships with clients and colleagues.
KEY RESPONSIBLITIES
• Generate revenue that meets or exceeds defined revenue and profit targets
• Build new client relationships and expand existing business with current clients
• Employ a consultative, strategic selling approach
• Manage all aspects of the sales process including prospecting, qualifying, meeting, negotiating, and closing projects
• Day-to-day management of accounts, utilizing sales management system to ensure accurate and current information
• Maintain knowledge of Ipsos’ products and services and trends in the market research industry
• Work with client service (project) teams to ensure client satisfaction
• Cultivate and strengthen client relationships through developing an understanding of their business objectives and ensuring exceptional client service
REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
• 7-10 years of sales experience required
• Proven track record generating new business and renewing/increasing existing business
• Possess new business development skills: prospecting, qualifying, presenting, needs assessment and the ability to close business
• Consultative sales experience selling research to brands, agencies and/or professional services firms is a major plus
• Experience in a market research, agency, consulting or other professional services organization preferred but not required
• Knowledge of the market research industry
• Ability to match and propose solutions and products to potential clients with custom needs
• Self-motivated, high energy, detailed-oriented individual with a passion for outbound sales, identifying new opportunities and a tireless work ethic
• Excellent communication skills (verbal and written), as well as listening and presentation skills
• Proficient with MS Office suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel), sales reports and CRM systems
• Periodic domestic travel required
