Weber Shandwick’s HealthcarePracticeon the west coast is continuing to expand. We are currently seeking an Account Director to join our growing team of conversation-starters, strategists, storytellers, PhD-level scientists, writers, designers and builders; this position can be based in either our San Francisco office or in our Los Angeles office. The ideal candidate is a resourceful integrated communications professional who possesses a strong interest in science and how medicines work, is curious and excited to experiment and explore new ideas, and has an entrepreneurial spirit. This role will be responsible for leading a large-scale client relationship and working closely with large teams internally and externally. Biotech and pharmaceutical drug development experience is required, oncology and FDA approval experience is strongly preferred.
Position Profile:
An Account Director plays a critical role in determining the future and long-term success of Weber Shandwick. They’re responsible for managing senior level client relationships and have regular exposure to client senior management. Account Directors are also accountable for collaborating between practice areas within the Weber Shandwick organization and supporting new business development efforts.
Primary Responsibilities:
• Keep client programs on schedule and ensure all deadlines are met
• Develop and maintain extremely strong interpersonal relationships with senior clients
• Serve as a primary contact for the client
• Address any issues, trouble shoot problems and provide strategic counsel
• Proactively handle client problems and issues quickly and adeptly
• Develop quality standards and ensure client satisfaction
• Build and nurture client relationship
• Organize new business research and information gathering and support development of new business initiatives
• Participate in new business pitch development and/or presentations
• Responsible for developing media relations strategy and delivering results
• Provide leadership, direction and guidance to account teams
• Develop and coach account teams for peak performance
• Work with peers to further the mission, goals and culture of the agency
• Mentor individuals so that they are able to achieve their professional goals
• Conduct performance appraisal of direct reports
• Ensure quality work from team in order to meet/exceed client expectations
• Structure and staff new and existing project teams, including reviewing resumes and interviewing candidates
• Attend account reviews and staff meetings - provide ongoing communications and feedback
• Key contact for internal account staff to address issues
• Ensure that account team members adhere to agency time reporting and financial guidelines
Qualifications
Basic Qualifications:
• Bachelor's Degree
• 8+ years related professional experience (5-6 years of which should be at a PR Agency)
• Pharmaceutical and/or biotech drug development experience required
• FDA approval experience is also preferred
• Oncology experience a plus
• New business development experience a plus
• Proficient in Microsoft Suite, Internet and on-line services
