Overview
Ogilvy is seeking an experienced media relations and strategic communications professional to join our team as Vice President in the San Francisco office. As a Vice President, you will join a very smart, talented and dynamic group of professionals working on a prestigious list of clients. Responsibilities
A VP is responsible for managing the client relationship and teams of multiple accounts. This includes both onboarding new business wins and integrating into existing account teams, with a sharp focus on recommending and executing strategic programs and activities that coordinate with client's goals and budgets. A VP is accountable for delivering contracted work on time and within budget, staffing accounts appropriately and producing high-quality work and excellent results, while ensuring team members produce the same. S/he must have a demonstrated record of developing and executing successful communications and/or public relations strategies, including earned media programs (global experience a plus). In addition, a VP meets the following responsibilities and expectations:
• Provides insights to the team and client to help build effective programs
• Lead day-to-day operations of client business; serve as a primary contact for the client
• Develop and execute long-term plans and program recommendations for clients, including product/campaign launches, messaging, thought leadership and executive visibility, earned media, corporate social responsibility and more
• Keep client programs on schedule and ensure all deadlines are met
• Address any issues, troubleshoot problems and provide strategic counsel
• Accountable for final review of all communication, reports, and client materials
• Have a solid understanding of the client's business goals and strategies; it's issues, trends and competitors
• Generates business development leads and opportunities
• Participate in pitch development and/or presentations
• Key contact for internal staff to address issues in a timely manner
• Conduct performance appraisal of direct reports
• Ensure quality work from team in order to meet/exceed client expectations
• Attend and actively participate in account reviews and staff meetings
• Provide ongoing communications and feedback
• Forecast client revenue on assigned account(s) and projects
• Create and execute accurate budget estimates for clients for long-term and short-term programs
Qualifications
• 9+ years experience in communications and/or PR communications, agency and global experience a plus
• Experienced media relations practitioner with background and/or knowledge working across range of brands, including but not limited to technology (B2C and B2B), consumer, health and sustainability
• Proven success developing global media relationships and securing strategic, top tier media coverage for clients
• Ability to craft compelling brand narratives, and lead message development
• Proven ability to manage/coach/mentor teams
• Strong understanding of CSR/sustainability issues
• Experience managing cause related campaigns
• Strong level of comfort driving communications strategy, and proven ability to deliver on that strategy with demonstrated results
• Experience developing thought leadership commentary for agency positioning
• Incredibly organized account manager
• Demonstrated experience managing integrated marketing campaigns with budgets of $1M or higher (earned, owned and paid media)
• Effective at working with cross-functional and remote teams
• High energy, deadline driven, accountable
• Proven experience successfully managing mid-size to large agency clients - both from a client service and a program execution perspective
• Strong financial acumen, able to manage large budgets and staffing
• Strong strategic and creative thinking
• BA/BS
