Ipsos, one of the world’s leading innovation, brand, and product testing companies, is providing on-site support for one of the largest food and beverage manufacturer’s in the world. We are looking for a leader with 5+ years of innovation and product testing experience to work onsite with the client-team to support a large product-testing program while also facilitating the relationship with the partnering Ipsos client service team.
Position Summary
You will be responsible for day-to-day product test design, execution, and analysis. Working very closely with the client, a critical part of your job is to ensure projects are designed to meet stated objectives and results are actionable. Your goal is to become the client’s trusted advisor, using your expertise in product testing and continuous improvement to guide the client to best demonstrated practice status.
Key Responsibilities
Initiate and design studies
• Receive requests from key client contacts to initiate product tests.
• Consult with client team to understand objectives, products to include, respondent screening criteria, key measures and success hurdles, desired timing
• Develop research design recommendation
• Communicate detailed design specifications to the Ipsos client service team, get study costs
• Gain agreement from key stakeholders on research design and expenditure, modifying specifications if necessary
Execute product tests, analyze findings, communicate results
• Oversee all aspects of executing the test with the Ipsos client service team
• Develop screeners and questionnaires with appropriate attribute and brand lists (in consultation with client team as needed)
• Establish product quantity requirements to produce and/or procure
• Review and approve product procurement details (sizes, flavors, code dates, markets, shipping protocols, etc.)
• Review and approve respondent instructions
• Review, edit, and approve analysis and reporting of results from the Ipsos client service team; analyze and create reports as necessary in some cases
• Develop business recommendation based on findings
• Present and discuss results and recommendation with client team (client may present final results to team)
Provide consultative expertise
• Participate in team tastings of prototypes and competitive products
• Guide product selection for studies, including choice of
◦ appropriate competitive products for competitive benchmarking tests,
◦ strongest prototypes for product improvement and cost savings optimization and qualification tests,
◦ products to include in experimental designs and category appraisals in order to represent an appropriate number of sensory dimensions and variations within dimensions
• Offer perspective on best practices
• Seek and share ways to streamline processes
• Use cross-category observations to identify areas for possible meta-learning
• Look for opportunities to address multiple goals within a study
Required Skills
• 5+ years of relevant experience in product testing, client side experience a plus
• Knowledge of range of CPG product testing methods, both innovation and renovation
• Knowledge of range of CPG innovation testing methods spanning early to late stage screening
• Strong quantitative research design and analytical skills
• Strong project management skills
• Expert at managing multiple, complex projects, ideally with high levels of data and detail
• Strong communication skills – written and oral; ability to formulate presentations and deliver as needed
• High level of curiosity
• Comfortable in ambiguous situations, matrixed management structures
• Willingness to learn
• A Bachelor’s Degree
Desired Experience
• Product sensory testing experience (supplier or client side) would be considered a significant asset.
