Job Description
Title: Director, Planning
Mindshare:
Mindshare is a global media agency network with billings in excess of US$34.5 billion (source: RECMA). The network consists of more than 7,000 employees, in 116 offices across 86 countries spread throughout North America, Latin America, Europe, Middle East, Africa and Asia Pacific.
Each office is dedicated to forging competitive marketing advantage for businesses and their brands based on the values of speed, teamwork and provocation. Mindshare is part of GroupM, which oversees the media investment management sector for WPP, the world’s leading communications services group.
Department – Strategic Planning:
Media Planners at Mindshare are part psychologists, part scientists, part artists, part entrepreneurs, and part politicians. We strategize how brands should communicate with people across the myriad of media channels, and how to do that differently from every other brand.
Quick Notes:
• Oversight of Unilever’s Deodorants portfolio, which includes Axe, Degree (for Men and Women) and Dove, as well as all Men’s Scale activities connecting all of Unilever’s Men’s brands across tentpole events like NCAA Basketball
• Primary point-of-contact for all Unilever Brand teams assigned to the Deodorant brands, as well as Unilever Media Manager dedicated to the Deo portfolio
• Requires strong working knowledge of the entire paid media ecosystem, including traditional, digital, mobile, social and e-comm, with a thirst for innovation
• Client is based in Englewood Cliffs, NJ, which is a short 30 minute drive from Mindshare. Unilever loves collaboration and in-person conversations, so travel to Englewood Cliffs generally happens 2-3 times per week, with the client visiting Mindshare’s offices quite often as well.
What we love about this position:
• Incredibly high profile position within Unilever, focusing on the one of the most profitable and competitive categories in the entire organization
• Each brand’s unique challenges, target audiences and competitors make this role one the most dynamic on the entire Unilever team
• Strong collaboration across all of Mindshare’s specialty teams (Invention Studio, Spotlight, Mindshare Entertainment), which has yielded award-winning work that pushes boundaries in driving our agency’s Adaptive Marketing framework
How we’ll grow together:
• This is an ideal role to learn all aspects of Unilever’s approach to media and marketing, allowing close collaboration with Brand Managers and Directors to acquire best-in-class knowledge from one of the world’s most progressive marketers.
• Mastering this role would enable the right individual to gain all of the necessary knowledge and confidence to work across any of Unilever’s categories beyond Deos (Hair, Skin, Foods, Refreshments), ultimately allowing this individual to progress into the role of Managing Director
Meat and Potatoes:
• Brings together different Mindshare disciplines to bring the best thinking ideas that our company has to offer
• Supervises the Deodorants Strategic Planning team, which consists of two Associate Directors, 2 Managers, 1 Senior Associate and 1 Associate
• Reports directly to one of the Managing Directors of Team Unilever at Mindshare
• Responsible for strategic development, implementation and stewardship of all components of paid media activity for the Unilever Deodorants portfolio
• Provides input on POVs for new or client requested opportunities
• Determines final budget allocation by medium, informed by any research or insight driven by media planning and taking into account the channel contact plan / brief
What you’ve already conquered:
• Bachelor’s degree, preferably with a concentration in advertising, marketing, business administration, and communications
• Minimum of eight years’ experience preferred, and past CPG experience is a huge plus
• Embraces collaboration across all disciplines, and has the type of personality that naturally brings the best out of different individuals and teams
• Strong comfort level and working knowledge of the entire media ecosystem, including digital, mobile, social and e-comm
• Excellent verbal and written skills
• Exceptional organizational skills, multi-tasking capabilities and detail oriented
• Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
