The VP/Director, Media Strategies should be a sophisticated, strategic thinker who applies a multi-channel media mindset to all client work, has an impressive sense of storytelling, a growing list of high level media contacts , and a demonstrated ability to support and help drive a robust newsroom approach for any project. S/he must serve as senior, daily contact for all assignments including creating a profitable budget. S/he will oversee the creation of multi-media strategies that factor in social and paid opportunities, partnering effectively with internal content creators as well as outside agencies. Additionally s/he will provide strategic counsel and team guidance/development, and must have a proven track record in new business development. The VP must be entrepreneurial in spirit and have the capability to manage multiple, simultaneous assignments, and the ability to manage internal and external (client) expectations. In addition, the VP should have excellent written and verbal communication skills. The VP should demonstrate the ability to provide sound counsel and recommendations on how the business is operated. S/he must be able to convey confidence in his/her opinions and recommendations with substantive and supported arguments. S/he must be team focused, possess strong leadership qualities and be capable of effectively managing a team, including building the earned media skills of other members of the Edelution team not in this job family.
Responsibilities and Expectations
SKILLS (Client & Stakeholder Engagement, Business & Project Management, Business Development and Talent Development/Leadership)
• Manage strategic process of pitching stories and/or responding to media inquiries
• Be a consumer of news – help identify media trends/interests, what “works” with top media
• Lead client meetings and participate new business presentations, when appropriate
• Counsel teams and clients on media relations strategies for an array of accounts; simultaneously juggling multiple projects and issues
• Showcase an extensive network of influencers, and an ability to maintain and develop key media contacts; experience pitching stories to national and local print, online, television and radio media
• Commit to continuous learning and improvement of leadership skills; set and pursue stretch goals
• Oversee management of high level feature and news placements / channel planning
• Participate in brainstorming and prospecting, and create proposals
• Display superior presentation skills including confidence in presenting to clients
• Look for opportunities to develop business with existing clients (including cross-selling) Participate in new business pitches
• Cross-promote additional media services
• Final editing responsibility for all agency- and client-generated documents
• Write and manage a variety of high level documents for a variety of audiences
• Provide regular media counsel to clients as required by account teams
• Build strong and lasting relationships with clients and operate as day to day internal and/or external client contact as appropriate
• Lead the research, planning and development of comprehensive media relations programs and new business pitches, along with the Vice President and Senior Vice President

Basic Qualifications:
• At least seven years (five or more in earned media work) of experience of doing predominantly earned media work in the pharmaceutical or healthcare arena
Preferred Qualifications:
• S/he must be able to demonstrate excellent storytelling skills, and provide sound, level-appropriate media counsel with all levels of internal client contacts
• This position requires proven management and leadership skills as well as a proven track record of executing large scale campaigns at the strategic and tactical level
• S/he must be able to manage the media budgets and team on sizable pieces of business to achieve client goals
• S/he must have strong contacts and working relationships with local and national news media, understanding of basic television production and video terminology.
• Previous experience with agency and/or media outlet is preferred
• Ability to write strategic media plans and a variety of media materials with limited oversight
• Experience managing pharmaceutical product and regulatory milestones, product launches, media events, issues and early science or pre-clinical work
• High awareness of current events
• Expert in studio and production facilities/services as well as satellite usage in media capabilities
• Proven ability to explain technical portion to client in an easy manner
• Expert in knowledge of TV, radio, print, and online media
• S/he must possess a broad understanding of all facets of media relations and marketing communications, a strong background of pitching and winning new business, and experience managing budgets
• The candidate should have a demonstrated history of providing high-level, strategic counsel; creative programs; quality outcomes, and; superior customer service to clients.
• Working knowledge of traditional, online and social media platforms
• Must have the ability to assess and understand complex situations and quickly distill the information for both the client and media. In addition, he/she must be team-focused and demonstrate strong leadership qualities
• A long-standing track record of developing and executing successful media relations programs with an agency or as an industry practitioner is critical
• An advanced degree is a plus
