Digital Director, Australia (Level 4b)
The Digital Director will bring inspirational leadership and vision to the business, ensuring Edelman’s success in the Australian market as a leading integrated communications marketing agency. Working with the CEO and the Head of Production to ensure optimal client service and ensure continued transformation of our Edelman’s communications marketing agenda. This key leadership role will report to the CEO. There will also be support from, and a dotted line to, the COO of Digital APACMEA.
The vision for Edelman Digital (APACMEA) is to be the most strategically advanced digital agency in the region, creating ‘living brands’: brands that can survive and thrive in a socialised, democratised environment where brands must be humanised and personalised to succeed. At the heart of this vision is the belief that a UX/CX sensibility will bring a differentiated capability to the deployment of digital, social and content along user journeys: from awareness through to purchase and retention.
The Digital Director is responsible for creating and maintaining a clear strategic vision and plan for the Digital team to identify strong new growth opportunities, both organically and through new business, whilst ensuring the effective delivery of client goals and objectives. This role is predominantly client and sales building pipeline and ensuring client satisfaction.
The immediate mission of this role is to build a new business pipeline (both within the Edelman business and with stand-alone direct clients) to reach monthly and yearly targets (ie: recognise AUD 3 million of revenue in FY17).
Key Responsibilities:
Commercial
• Partnering with Day to day responsibility over the Digital side of the business
• Partner with Head of Production to run the Digital sub-PnL
• With support from the CEO, Regional COO (Digital), MD’s of Brand and Reputation and Senior Director of Client Strategy and Operations, Head of Production, drive growth organically and through new business, with specific focus on significantly growing the integrated offering across the whole agency
• Accountable for a team that delivers at least AUD$3m in FY17 and drive team to overachieve this target (the vertical task). Also assist agency in delivering an additional AUD$3m in content and social revenue (the horizontal task)
• Sell Edelman products and ground self in SOPs as they are released – target 10 sales in FY17
• Spot check financials on key accounts on a monthly basis to ensure teams are on top of financial issues and address potential of scope creep/over-servicing; ensure that pro-active decision are made on time that will be “invested” on accounts to support longer-term growth. Alert Director or Managing Director to all such investments
• Conduct quarterly review of all key accounts under your direction, including over-servicing and account profitability; identify and develop plan to address trends; report to MD on a quarterly basis
• Demonstrate overall understanding of team financials (including resourcing, utilisation, over-servicing, profitability and forecasting), and how accounts under your direction impact overall revenues, profitability
Strategic
• Partner with CEO and Regional COO Digital to set team vision, strategy and business objectives with support from the Head of Production and cascade to team
• Drive forward the business strategy effectively, whilst bringing the agency’s various communities together and working in an enhanced collaborative fashion. Work closely with other leaders throughout the Edelman network as necessary
• Develop and deliver robust business plan, alongside the Head of Production that keeps the team ahead of the competition, develops new offers and services
• Embed IP and Edelman products into service offer to increase value to clients and overall profitability of work
• Ensure effective creative and planning services are deployed and paid for amongst key clients
Talent and Leadership
• Help transform account handlers into Client Strategists who are channel neutral, social by design and grounded in earned
• Be a positive role model for leadership values and behaviors
• Strong people advocate and developer of future talent
• Make decisions whilst considering the needs of the whole agency
• Empower and hold accountable senior members of team to deliver the required business results for growth
• Coach senior team members in your team to ensure that they are fully empowered to fulfil and execute their roles, and able to support and inspire their teams and think beyond traditional channels
• Alongside Head of Production, identify, shape, attract and develop talent across all levels; retain (churn below 20%) and develop key team employees through mentoring, motivation, feedback and learning opportunities
Marketing, new business and networking
• Contributes to overall marketing calendar to raise profile of teams and their offer
• Undertakes proactive and reactive new business strategies to ensure year-on-year growth
• Partners with the global sector, practice and GCRM functions
• Networks amongst client groups and marcomms industry peers
Client focused
• Manages key relationships with CMO, CCO and other C-Suite clients at local, regional and global level demonstrated by strong growing client revenues
• Provide channel-neutral counsel to clients, whilst leading and mobilising an internal team around client needs
• Ensure we can deliver the high-quality solutions we propose within budget scoped and timeframe agreed
• Act as an ambassador for integration and be able to sell any service in the agency and bring experts in to deliver
• Provide pipeline to ensure maximised billability of team to 80% of time
