Edelman Toronto is looking for an Account Director to lead media strategy with all levels of client stakeholders. You bring proven leadership and a track record of executing large-scale campaigns at the strategic and tactical level across a diverse set of technology clients. You retain high level media contacts among a variety of reporters, editors, producers, bloggers and are channel agnostic, digitally/socially savvy.
In this role, you are entrusted and empowered to ensure both the client’s and agency’s business objectives are met. This role, is the ideal position for someone who possesses a broad understanding of all facets of multi-channel earned media and communications marketing.
Reporting to the Deputy General Manager, you will bring at least eight years of experience leading integrated agency and/or in-house teams.
Responsibilities:
• Manage the media budgets and team across a portfolio of technology clients
• Write strategic earned media plans and a variety of media materials with limited oversight
• Bring a ‘continuous whiteboarding’ mentality to the client’s business Effectively assembles, deploys and leads integrated teams of specialists based on evolving needs of clients
• Ensures the client is benefitting from Edelman IP, insights, best practices and methodologies
• Oversees client budget management and forecasting; proactively addresses scope creep and delays in client invoice payment
• Creates an organic growth plan for bringing in new Edelman capabilities that meet the client’s needs
• Thinks and programs across a variety of platforms, channels and audiences
• Serves as the client’s chief advocate within Edelman and ensures broad understanding of the client’s business, goals and point of view
• Clearly articulates the business problem(s) that the client is looking to solve and ensures it is understood by anyone who touches the client’s business
• Knows how and when to leverage and monetize the full suite of Edelman resources
• Maintains an intimate understanding of the client’s business, priorities, pain points and competitive landscape and insists that anyone who touches the business does the same
• Stays knowledgeable about the markets, sectors and channels in which the client operates; uses internal and external resources to address knowledge gaps and speeds learning with colleagues
• Anticipates what’s next; helps the client see around corners, get ahead of issues and capitalize on new opportunities
Qualifications
Industry Knowledge and Relationships:
• Expertise in the technology industry, including knowledge of, and currency on, key industry trends and history
• Bring strong contacts and working relationships with local and national news media, understanding of basic television production and video terminology.
• Previous experience with agency and/or media outlet is preferred.
• High awareness of current events.
• Solid relationships and a strategic mindset regarding key opinion leaders and technology influencers
• Maintain a high industry profile and cultivates a network of contacts for business development
Earned Media & Integrated Marketing Experience:
• Experience managing product launches, celebrity campaigns, milestone announcements, media events, participate in desk-side briefings, etc.
• Solid understanding that earned media, alongside marketing is essential
• A long-standing track record of developing and executing successful media relations programs with an agency
• Equally values digital marketing and traditional editorial; can blend both successfully
• Evolves and challenges client briefs – and teams – to deliver on business and communication objectives
Leadership Skills:
• Broad understanding of all facets of media relations and marketing communications, a strong background of pitching and winning new business, and experience managing budgets.
• You have kept current, and aspire to be a thought leader on the overall multi-channel media environment – from new social platforms to legacy media, and are able to articulate the value of leveraging all assets to a client’s business and communications objectives
• Pursue new business opportunities by expanding scope of work with existing clients (e.g., different projects, convergence assignments, etc.) and through direct outreach to prospective clients
• Anticipate what’s next, take a strong well-informed POV and can deliver wise counsel which moves a client’s business forward
• A strategic thinker and can quickly put new ideas and business models into context
• Balance needs of the client and the firm, and proactively navigates client issues and challenges
• Demonstrated ability to earn trust and respect of the C-Suite including CMOs and CCOs
• Participate in and represent the company brand at networking events and conferences
• Lead and participate in key pitches (including those from existing clients); ensure appropriate network resources are used and processes followed, and approve all major proposals
