Edelman’s Washington DC office has an exciting opportunity for a Vice President on our Media Strategies team. This opportunity provides diverse responsibilities such as helping clients navigate the complex media landscape, media training, deepening relationships with journalists and newsrooms, to managing the financials for your accounts and clients. You’ll work across a wide variety of industries including health, energy, technology, financial services and food & nutrition, among others.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Participate in the research, planning and development of key messages and comprehensive media relations programs.
• Generate original ideas for media outreach and strategy, and write strategic media plans and media materials with limited oversight.
• Draft key messages, press releases, Op-Eds, blog posts, pitches, Tweets, and other written products for internal and external use.
• Oversee multiple projects for multiple clients, from conceptualization to completion – including managing a team to deliver results on time and on budget.
• Build strong and lasting relationships with clients and operate as the day-to-day client contact. This includes participating in client meetings and new business presentations as appropriate.
• Regular and consistent counseling of clients on media strategy, drawing from a clear understanding of the latest media trends and outlets.
• Communicate with a wide range of national and local media on behalf of clients, maintaining key media contacts and growing relationships with newsrooms and journalists. Regular pitching of national print, radio, TV and online media, as well as work on features and Op-Eds.
• Monitor media outlets for client-related activities and trends, and non-client specific media trends as well.
• Troubleshoot client issues.
• Manage vendor relationships.
QUALIFICATIONS:
• You have experience effectively managing multiple sizable accounts (including financials) and experience serving as the daily client contact.
• You have a thorough understanding of the changing media landscape, the pressures that newsrooms (print, broadcast and online) and journalists face, and how social media impacts and intersects today’s journalism.
• You have the proven ability to consistently make sound judgments and effectively motivate and manage teams. You have exceptional communication (both written and verbal) and interpersonal skills and can multi-task efficiently.
• You must have at least eight years of relevant experience in public relations and/or related fields including research, advertising, management consulting, media and publishing. Previous experience with agency and/or media outlet is preferred.
