The VP, Software Development will take ownership of software systems, processes, tools and teams. This role will build and lead teams that design, build and maintain software systems leveraging best practices from Agile, Lean and DevOps. They will leverage the latest cloud and open source technologies to provide agile and flexible systems to meet customer needs in the cable industry. This role will maintain and extend the video services that enable all Company Video experiences, including the IP applications (iOS, Roku, Android, etc.) and traditional set top box video. They will establish and deliver a roadmap of improvements in collaboration with the product and operations teams that maximize value through agile continuous improvement. This role will contribute technical perspective to strategic business discussions and will advocate for best practices. This role is a balance between technical depth and business acumen to ensure software investments are strategic and maximize value.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Actively and consistently support all efforts to simplify and enhance the customer experience.
Stay abreast of trends in the area of Agile, Cloud and DevOps technologies and systems.
Lead teams to envision, design and implement best in class features for Company Video Customers with the highest quality to meet the objectives of the business through software development and system automation.
Understand changing business needs and advocate for proactive investment (architecture changes, refactoring, etc.) to maintain optimal delivery velocity without sacrificing quality.
Leverage offshore and 3rd party partners to optimize the cost of software delivery. Solid understanding of software contracts and financial administration. Must understand and strategically manage budgets to achieve objectives.
Oversee defect/remedy and outage triage methods for video software and ensure continuous improvement practices are in place to reduce future customer impact.
Ensure that software delivery systems in cloud or virtual environments are aligned with operational and system company objectives.
Provide support to the Video and Network Operations organizations to ensure proper handoff and documentation of new and modified software systems.
Oversee the implementation of software architecture plans for all current and future software projects’ requirements
Establish a dynamic, highly motivated, software delivery team with outstanding competencies in the company's core technologies and processes.
Skills/Abilities and Knowledge
Ability to read, write speak and understand English
Ability to use logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems
Ability to monitor/assess performance of yourself, other individuals, or organizations to make improvements or take corrective action
Ability to understand the implications of new information for both current and future problem-solving and decision-making
Knowledge of software best practices including Lean, Agile, DevOps, CI/CD, Cloud computing
Knowledge of software testing methods, software deployment methods, and software server systems (Virtual and physical)
Knowledge of video systems and the cable industry
Strong track record of success as leader

Strong management skills demonstrated through effective implementation and use of team approach, systems agile development methodology and processes, business strategies and planning
Strong leadership skills demonstrated through effective communication of direction, motivating team members and providing continuous feedback
Demonstrated experience building and leading teams
Technical or Engineering Degree with MBA Preferred.
