User Research Manager
The User Research Manager will be responsible for leading and mentoring a growing team of highly talented and creative research analysts, moderators and project managers in the User Research Lab at Company Toronto (Company website/). The lab’s mandate is to support game production teams, both in Toronto and Company worldwide, by gathering valuable feedback on our games, analyzing the data, and assisting teams in making good iterative choices towards improving our games. Capitalize on our state of the art research facility, supported by a plethora of tools and technologies, to bring our services to the forefront of the industry and creating exciting opportunities for the team and lab growth.
Type of Position: Permanent, full-time.
Responsibilities:
•Lead, manage, and mentor the User Research team, providing support and direction in their work and developing their skills and abilities.
•Grow the team further to support the expanding needs of our company and studio, while branching into new areas of specializations and expertise.
•Conduct annual year performance reviews. Assist in setting personal goals for members of the User Research team. Grow the expertise of existing team members, and ensure support for ramp up of new team members.
•Be responsible for the overall quality of the team’s deliverables.
•Oversee the organization and processes of the lab, including testing schedule, test costs, occupancy of team members, test and project assignments, training documentation and processes, etc.
•Collaborate with other Company labs to ensure standardization of best practices and constant iteration on methodology.
•Advocate for user testing to teams within the studio, to ensure that the values and benefits provided by the lab are well communicated, and testing best practices are followed.
•Keep up with new technologies, techniques, and best practices in user research.
Training
•Bachelor’s degree in ergonomics, HCI, cognitive psychology or any other relevant training or experience.
•Graduate degree preferred.
Experience
•5+ years’ experience in user research in a game production environment.
•3+ demonstrated experience leading and managing a user research team.
•Experience within the video game industry preferred.
Skills & Knowledge:
•Team leadership & mentoring.
•Organized & process oriented (and able to impart that to the team).
•High standards for quality.
•Motivated with a desire to drive change.
•Proactive and autonomous.
•Able to work under pressure.
•Strong communication skills and an ability to manage a variety of stakeholders in different levels of the organization.
•Strong knowledge of user testing methodology and tools.
•Must have extremely strong knowledge of the video game industry and production cycles.
