This position is open to local applicants within Farmington Hills or Plymouth, MI area only. The job will sit at the Farmington Hills location and relocation benefits will not be offered.
As a Transportation Specialist, you will interact with managers, team members, and logistics service providers (LSPs) in the day to day operation of Company transportation. You will be responsible for tracking and coordinating incoming and outbound shipments with contracted transportation providers, assisting in the design of transportation networks, supporting unplanned expedited freight, and implementing new transportation providers.
Main Responsibilities to include:
Coordinate incoming shipments with contracted transportation providers and material planners
Establish and maintain routing of international and domestic transportation lanes
Update and administration of transportation master data
Support Collaboration between different stakeholders (LSP, Supplier, TMC Management, regional purchasing, and IT service providers)
Identifying and implementing Continuous Improvement Projects (CIP)
Support generation and configuration of reports
Support processes in Freight Cost Controlling
Coordinate freight damage and loss claims
Defining the transport mode and frequency for materials
Represent own tasks towards management and internal stakeholders
Further tasks, defined by the employer
Bachelors degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or Engineering
1+ years of experience working in a logistics role or completion of a co-op program in a logistics role
2+ years of experience with MS Office software suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
At least 2 year’s work experience in transportation field
Must be able to work in teams and to lead small project groups
Knowledge of Lean Six Sigma Concepts & Problem Solving tools (5 Whys, 5S, A3, ANOVA, PDCA, SIPOC, VSM)
Must be self-motivated and willing to be flexible in work schedule and hours. Sometimes the job requires staying later or taking calls during off hours or weekends to assist with operational issues.
Must be able to travel domestically and internationally (<10%)
