As the multi-specialty group practice for the faculty of the Company Medical School, Company Physicians has more than 950 physicians and 1,600 health professionals, providing clinical care in over 100 specialty and sub-specialty areas. The Sterilization Techniciandecontaminates, cleans, inspects, processes, assembles, replaces, sterilizes, stores, inventory/tracks and distributes medical instruments. Ensures instruments are available and ready when needed. Transports instruments and supplies between processing areas. Creates and maintains/updates manufacturer’s Instructions for Use (IFU’s) manuals. Cleans and maintains instrument processing areas and additional duties as assigned including but not limited to cleaning rooms, stocking, ordering supplies, trains/refreshes new and/or updated reprocessing policies/procedures for other staff members, and other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Determines Operating Room surgical instrument needs for surgery cases and helps set up surgical instrument trays. Picks supplies for procedures in the surgery center, as well as the procedure center.
Sterilization Technician Overview
Key responsibilities includebut are not limited to:
1. Cleans, decontaminates and sterilizes instruments, supplies and equipment according to prescribed procedures and techniques.
Disassembles, cleans and reassembles complex equipment.
Identifies, dates and stores cleaned, sterilized items.
Interprets detailed technical instructions on equipment operation.
Assembles instrument procedural cassettes for use in procedural and operating rooms by following all manufacturer’s instructions for use (IFU’s)
Maintains, decontaminates and processes transfer carts and work environment including work surfaces and mechanical equipment.
Utilizes continuous quality improvement techniques during the reprocessing of materials before distribution to user areas
. Creates, maintains and updates manufacturer’s Instructions for Use (IFU) manuals. Maintains and updates other clinical manuals and as assigned by supervisor
3. Responds to emergency requests for supplies and instruments.
Completes document for replacing safety and emergency stock.
Assists in locating site-specific instrumentation.
Sorts and separates instruments returning site-specific instruments to the proper site
4. Operates and completes quality testing, and maintenance of sterilizers and equipment types within the area. Maintains safe and secure environment.
Prepares and uses solutions per manufacturer’s instruction.
Follows CPC written policies and procedures.
Operates dryers, heat sealers and steam sterilization equipment.
Operates mechanical ultrasonic cleaner, cart washer and washer decontaminator.
Operates steam sterilizers.
Operates Ethylene Oxide and low temperature sterilizers.
Runs biological monitor with every sterilization load.
Incubates, reads and records biological monitor and releases sterilization loads from quarantine.
5. Works closely with coworkers and communicates to all levels of the professional users in person, through email and telephone conversations.
Communicates between shifts and with supervisor for efficient operation and problem resolution.
Communicates instrument and supply needs.
6. Completes all initial and annual required leaning relevant to the role.
Contributes to a safe work environment.
Complete all required courses and training to obtain certification within 12 months of hire.

Communicates in a respectful manner.
Ensures a safe, secure environment.
Partners with patient/care-giver/management in care/decision making.

8. Performs other duties including Performance Goals developed by manager and employee and reported in the employee’s Performance Review as part of UMPhysicians’ Performance Management tools
Maintains core/universal competencies and completes any new required learnings.
Demonstrates all critical competencies and new required learnings.
Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) or must obtain CRCST within 6 months of hire
Central supply and order processing
Ability to understand detailed technical instructions on equipment operation.
Microsoft Word and Excel skills.
Attention to detail, documentation skills, manual dexterity, organizational skills, ability to lift and push up to 50 pounds.

Hours: 1.0 FTE 11:30am-7:30pm Monday - Friday
*When clinic hours return to normal business hours after the response to the COVID-19 Pandemic the hours will shift to 12:30pm-9:00pm Monday-Friday
