High School Diploma, GED or approved High School Equivalent Certificate.
Graduate of a state approved, accredited school of Surgical technology or Sterile Processing/Central Sterile Services.
Five years Surgical Technician/ Sterile Processing Technician experience.
Seven years Surgical Technician/Sterile Processing Technician experience.
Certified Central Service Technician or Certified Surgical Technologist.
Fire and Safety Certification. If no card upon hire, one must be obtained within 30 days of hire, and maintained by renewal before expiration date.
Current certification as a Certified Instrument Specialist (IACHSMM) or Surgical Instrument Specialist (CBSPD).
The Sterile Processing Educator is responsible for developing formal and informal written plans for the Keck Medical Center of Company CSPD training program, in compliance with accreditation organizations requirements as well as medical center policies and procedures for CSPD and related staff. Facilitates training of CSPD staff through educational programs and job specific instruction. Improves CSPD processes by facilitating the application for new technology of reusable medical devices by training all new and existing staff. Develops, monitors, and revises CSPD educational programs for both new and existing staff. Documents and assesses staff’s training, to identify areas of strength and need. Develops an education plan (literature review, continuing education, in-services, certification and/or formal education) to maintain and improve knowledge in specialized areas of processing reusable medical devices. Participates in tracking, trending and analyzing education data. Identifies opportunities for improvement, makes recommendations and/or prepares reports based on findings. Develops and conducts the annual review of the CSPD preceptor program. The Sterile Processing Educator will be required to travel to various work locations consulting with clinics to help educate clinical management and techs with processing procedures.
