Job Summary:
Responsible for reviewing, evaluating, analyzing and controlling workplace and community environments. Design programs and procedures to control, eliminate, and prevent disease or injury caused by chemical, physical, and biological agents or ergonomic factors. May conduct inspections and enforce adherence to laws and regulations governing the health and safety of individuals. Apply appropriate sensitivity level for employees and customers when handling insurance claims for Workers' Compensation, auto, and general liability. Administer major programs ex. confined space, fall protection, set local environmental health and safety goals as well as loss control strategy.
Core Responsibilities:
• Investigates accidents to identify root causes and possible unpreventable employee misconduct, to determine how such accidents might be prevented in the future. Maintains records of accidents on the site and prepares reports as required by regulatory agencies and management.
• Participate, coordinate and lead different levels of accident review board, at the local, regional, divisional and corporate level
• Investigates the adequacy of ventilation, exhaust equipment, lighting, and other conditions that could affect employee health, comfort or performance. Evaluate and recommend engineering and administrative remediation steps and determine which controls to put in place.
• Investigates health related complaints, and inspect facilities to ensure that they comply with public health legislation and regulations ex. Ergonomics, indoor air quality, asbestos exposure.
• Reduce impact of water and chemical intrusion into Company facilities and mitigate potential health effects to workforce by performing detailed inspection of all occupied facilities
• Inspects company facilities to assure the compliance with safety and fire safety standards set forth by the company and applicable government agencies. Completes written report on each inspection. Inspect mobile employees operating in community
• Reports all safety discrepancies observed during inspections of facilities, vehicles, plant, customer service operations to appropriate management and recommend corrective action. Implement process and procedure changes to minimize exposure to people, property and image.
• Lead system management on regulatory agency inspections inclusive of FCC, FAA, EPA, DOT/FMCR inspections. Support Workers' Compensation inspections.
• Perform field observations on Company field personnel. Apply risk avoidance and risk management decision logic to all levels of activity and communicate any violations of safety regulations or suspected drug/alcohol use by employees to management.
• Inspect, measure gaps, and apply best practices to all DOT fleet management. Identify waste streams from Company facilities and work practices and coordinate disposal efforts.
• Consistent exercise of independent judgment and discretion in matters of significance.
• Regular, consistent and punctual attendance. Must be able to work nights and weekends, variable schedule(s) and overtime as necessary.
• Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Additional Responsibilities:
• Travel 75% within assigned territory; up to 5% outside assigned territory
• Position is 40% Safety / 35% Health / 20% Environmental / 5% Industrial Hygiene
Additional Qualifications:
• Associate degree related to environmental health and safety, business administration, organizational development, or related discipline is preferred. Any one or a combination of the following certifications is preferred and may contribute to the work experience requirements: CSP, ASP, OHST, or equivalent industry recognized certification.
• 5-7 years of EHS experience and possesses the knowledge and application of environmental, health, and safety regulations, as well as, familiarity with EHS regulatory agencies' protocols.
• Skilled in performing safety inspections and ensuring compliance with OSHA, DOT, NFPA, MUTCD, and EPA standards
• Must be able to perform inspections of warehouses, head ends, roadside work sites, call centers, and vehicles that involve walking throughout the work areas and climbing steps.
• Strong interpersonal, written and communication skills. Ability to address and solve EHS issues from a universal perspective.
• Must be able to coach, teach, counsel, and be comfortable speaking to groups.
• Must be able to work independently without day-to-day supervision.
• Ability to communicate technical information to non-technical personnel; knowledge of federal, state and local safety regulations, protocols and/or procedures.
• Ability to investigate and analyze information and to draw conclusions; ability to gather data, compile information and prepare reports.
• Must be an independent self-motivated individual who has the ability to work on various projects, at varying degrees of progress with accompanying stress.
• Associate's degree in EHS related field; five or more years of EHS related experience; or equivalent combination of education and/or experience. CSP or other EHS related certification a plus.
