Job Introduction
Company News is expanding its efforts to reach and engage underserved audiences via social media. We are looking for self-starting senior producers (SBJ) brimming with ideas on how to excite and enthuse audiences who gravitate instinctively to social media first for news and information.
Specifically, we are creating a number of new Facebook pages and presences on other social sites, that are based around topics, subjects or themes, rather than Company programmes, channels or website indexes. By pulling together output from TV, radio and online and promoting it off-site, we hope to create new ways to engage younger audiences and women with the Company’s online and broadcast journalism. The Facebook pages will also foster online communities that could be used to gather story ideas, locate potential interviewees or case studies, or to trail upcoming programmes.
We have new pages focused on entertainment news, health and lifestyle, family and education and are reinforcing our social media presence in business, politics and science.
These roles will focus on social publishing to the Company Business and Company Family and Education Facebook pages and will work with colleagues in the Business and Education units to make a meaningful impact on other relevant social media channels, particularly Twitter, Instagram and Snapchat.
The ideal candidates for these 12 month contracts or attachments will combine both excellent social media and digital news skills and an in depth knowledge of one of these subject areas.
Role Responsibility
You will be the lead producer and manager of a new Facebook topic page, responsible for setting the social media agenda for the business unit or Education department and for providing editorial guidance on relevant stories, tone and community management across social media platforms.
You will work in collaboration with relevant colleagues across Company News, ensuring all those contributing to the page understand what’s required of them and that there is both a sustainable work-flow and comment moderation.
Working closely with our audience engagement team you will track and monitor performance of your Facebook page in tandem with the specific objective of reaching and engaging underserved (particularly younger and female) audiences.
Alongside your Facebook duties you will be expected to commission and contribute relevant content for other social media channels, including @BBCBusiness on Twitter and Instagram and the Company News Channel on Snapchat.
The Ideal Candidate
The successful candidate will have:
• First rate knowledge of specialist subject areas, including editorial challenges presented in the roles
• Expertise in headline writing, social media content curation, community management and picture and video editing
• Familiarity with paid tools and dashboards, such as Social Flow, Crowdtangle and Spredfast, and knowledge of how to source stories for underserved audiences
• Excellent understanding of how best to encourage colleagues to deliver first-rate, relevant content to social channels
• Knowledge of how to measure/track performance through Facebook Insights and other analytics dashboards.
