The *Small Business Counselor* position is an intermediate level professional position through which the SBTDC?s counseling, training, research and technical assistance services are provided to small business owners, would-be entrepreneurs and to individuals and firms developing new products, technologies or markets. The position is expected to provide a broad range of business advice and in-depth assistance to a sizable number of clients, both in the regional offices and elsewhere throughout an assigned multi-county geographic area. *Professional Knowledge:* Must exemplify professionalism and demonstrate a professional level of knowledge of business best practices, current thinking in management principles and techniques, group dynamics, workplace and management technologies. Must be able to influence management focus on key issues and performance enhancement activities, effective strategy development and execution. Must gain, maintain and utilize comprehensive knowledge of available resources for business and community development. *Consultancy Skills:* Must deliver appropriate, effective advice/recommendations to business owners/managers, as well as connect to other resources within and outside of the SBTDC, university and other state and federal entities. Must demonstrate effective listening skills, and be excellent oral and written communication skills. Must demonstrate a professional level of understanding and ability to employ effective consultancy and counseling techniques, and must be able to effectively call on team members to augment knowledge base and skills sets *Communication & Marketing:* Professional presentation and communication of organizational mission to business owners/managers clients, key economic development partners, elected officials, government administrators, bankers, university faculty and students, the general public and others. Effective outreach throughout assigned territory, and accurate, comprehensive description of programs, products and services to all relevant constituencies.
Bachelor?s degree and one year of experience related to the area of assignment; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
