Distributed Computing Services provides the managed serverless runtimes used by all teams within Company CDO. As a senior technical leader (Senior Manager, Software Development) for the Adaptive Traffic Management org, you will be at the forefront of defining Company CDO’s strategy around Traffic management across hyper-scale systems in the areas of Load shedding, traffic control systems, Caching, as well as providing runtime abstractions that manage these concerns for CDO developers. You will lead multiple teams that provide core traffic shaping and caching libraries used by AWS and CDO services, as well as Company CDO’s implementation of ServiceMesh. Your systems will decouple the business logic from the core Service-to-Service communication layer for Company CDO services to reduce the cognitive load and maintenance burden on the engineers as well as allow services to be portable and flexible. The teams have deep domain expertize and are solving cutting-edge problems in this space that have never been solved before.
As the leader of this space, you will hire, develop, and retain deep technical team members. You will own defining the long term vision, driving long and short term product strategy, working with internal Company customers as well as partnering with stakeholders such as AWS load balancing team. You will be responsible for setting the team culture, best practices, and planning. You will manage multiple line managers and ensure the timely delivery of the new product and feature launches. The successful candidate will be comfortable dealing with ambiguity, be very customer-centric and able to think big! You will build centers of excellence for the traffic management and caching areas, and own driving programs that will help Company CDO improve business KPIs such as availability and cost efficiency. You will closely work with principal engineers and may manage them. You will lead programs with company-wide goals, and represent your work to senior executives directly.
Distributed Computing Services (DCS) builds and operates innovative hosted compute platforms that empower Consumer/Digital/Other (CDO) engineers to build and operate architectures for their business solutions that are secure, available, productive, and cost efficient. Our offerings include Compute Platform-as-a-Service products, Orchestration products that power most of the critical business processes within Company, Configuration products used by thousands of use cases including Company’s Product Catalog Metadata, Compute Optimization products such as software load balancing/serialization libraries etc., Service Frameworks, traffic shaping products, and caching products used by teams across AWS and CDO. BS/MS in Computer Science or equivalent
A minimum of 10 years of industry experience in software development
A minimum of 5 years of software management experience
A minimum of 5 years interacting regularly and directly with senior executives
A minimum of 3 years managing managers
Technically sound in software development activities and life cycles
Passion for great customer experience and API usability
Software development experience in Java, XML, Web services, UNIX tools
2+ years of experience with large scale distributed systems
Strong knowledge of networking concepts and AWS VPC features
Internet and operating system security fundamentals
Internet and network security fundamentals
Strong analytic and problem solving skills
A passion for people management and mentoring
Proven track record of high-scale hiring and talent management on teams of multiple disciplines
