Microsoft Theater, formerly Nokia Theatre L. A. LIVE, hosts over 120 music, family, dance and comedy acts, award shows, televised productions, conventions and product launches with over 500,000 guests passing through the doors annually. The 7,100-seat theater offers guests mid-sized intimacy, with no seat further from the stage than 220 feet. Microsoft Theater offers 12,000 square feet of VIP & hospitality areas, 10 dressing rooms and state of the art technology making it is a favorite indoor venue for performers and fans alike. Since opening in October 2007 with six sold out shows featuring the Eagles and Dixie Chicks, Microsoft Theater has hosted concerts starring the most popular artists including Alan Jackson, Katy Perry, Charlie Wilson, Juan Gabriel, Aretha Franklin, Ed Sheeran, John Fogerty, Gabriel Iglesias, Kanye West, Marc Anthony, Sesame Street Live, John Legend, The Avett Brothers, Neil Young, Steely Dan, Trey Songz, Kelly Clarkson, Rush, Yanni, Nicki Minaj, Juanes, Cat Stevens, The American Idol Finale shows, Michael Jackson’s This is It, Straight Outta Compton, The Hunger Games and Twilight Movie Premieres and many more. Microsoft Theater is home to the American Music Awards, ESPYs, Primetime Emmy Awards, BET Awards, People’s Choice Awards, Radio Disney Music Awards, 2010, 2011 & 2015 MTV Video Music Awards, 2014 & 2015 MTV Movie Awards and the 2013 Rock N’ Roll Hall of Fame.
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Senior Manager of Marketing & Promotions is responsible for all marketing assets for shows at Microsoft Theater. This position will work closely with talent buyer(s) to develop, execute, manage and sustain marketing and promotional plans as well as identify venue and community strategies to advance new and current commerce. This position will work in conjunction with artist management, radio/TV, print, outdoor, digital and venue marketing team to create and develop an effective marketing plan that will reach the correct demographic and target customers appropriate for each show. This position will also be responsible for maintaining and tracking budgets to make sure funds are allocated correctly.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
•Monitor the financial risk for Microsoft Theater for all concerts and special events and work to continually increase ticket sales for all events.
•Responsible for development and execution of marketing and promotional plans for approximately 50 shows per year. Collaborates with talent buyers and artist management to plan and oversee the marketing spend. Develop and roll out long-term marketing initiatives with assistance of marketing team.
•Generate and adhere to marketing budget. Book and account for all advertising and media ensuring funds are allocated to correct partners. Prepare advertising settlements for each show.
•Develop and pitch promotions to media outlets. Contact radio, TV, print and schedule air / print time and set up giveaways. Negotiate and interpret rates, proposals and contracts with various media outlets and effectively communicate ideas. Buy ad space via the internet/apps (YouTube, Google, Yahoo, Pandora, Spotify, etc.)
•Cultivate strong relationships and understand media politics and negotiate delicate and crucial media relationships.
•Collaborate with agencies and vendor partners like AXS on marketing opportunities for shows, emails, banners and promotions. Develop promotional, advertising partnerships with websites that can reach targeted demographics.
•Work with marketing team and artist management to develop additional marketing opportunities to increase ticket sales when needed. Keep up with current marketing and social media trends to brainstorm new ideas and concepts for assets and promotions to market events.
•Hire and coordinate efforts with street teams to make sure they have materials needed and are marketing to the right audience.
•Work with Microsoft Theater Manager, Graphic Design to create graphics for e-cards, web banners, posters, flyers, social media posts, radio station needs and e-mails
•Work closely with Microsoft Theater Communication and Social Media Manager to oversee, design, build and maintain social media presence, research current trends and apply current promotions. Run point for setting up account access with artists. Keep up with current social trends to insure social strategy remains current. Develop social ad copy; implement ad schedules to appeal to a specific demographic and target customer.
•Work closely with Microsoft Theater Communication and Social Media Manager to supervise publicity, advance press interviews, secure and coordinate artist availability for promotions with management, label and public relations agencies.
•Manage schedule of pre-sales and on-sales and promotional ticket grids
•Manage and utilize marketing assets available at L.A. LIVE
•May be responsible for other duties day of show including but not limited to overseeing house photographers, live updates on social media, escort media, coordinate meet and greets and guest list.
OTHER QUALIFICATIONS:
•A minimum education level of a Bachelor of Arts/Sciences Degree in Marketing, Business, Communications, PR, or related area.
•5-7 years of related experience in entertainment marketing
•Strong knowledge of Los Angeles media outlets; radio, TV, print, online, blogs
•Ability to interact with confidence with all levels of Company and our partners
•Knowledge of social media and online marketing initiatives and strategies
•Experience in marketing a wide variety of events and adaptability when dealing with projects
•Proven strengths in managing all aspects of event marketing from planning through post-show analysis
•Knowledge of music industry
•Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to build and cultivate relationships
•Strong creative thinking and initiative
•Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers and the general public
•Excellent written and verbal presentation skills
•Ability to read, listen and communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing
