Responsibilities
This role is within the NBC News group and you should apply if you are creative, insightful and passionate about understanding our consumers and how we provide value to them. Our goal is to assist our internal team members including editorial, product and business to make informed data driven decisions. We do more than report numbers, we have to uncover and report the story that's hidden in plain sight.
The job reports to the Sr. Director of Insights, and requires you to be comfortable working independently as well as part of a larger team. You must be comfortable analyzing quantitative and qualitative data sets and weave them together to provide a deep understanding of NBC News consumers. You must thrive in a collaborative team environment while helping to build out processes, frameworks and best practices.
The Senior Manager - Insights is responsible for understanding and advancing the company’s knowledge of customer behavior through qualitative research methods and to develop strategies and recommendations to inform editorial, product and business objectives. The expectation is that you will become an expert on the "Voice of the Consumer" by developing and disseminating customer insights and analyses that support the needs of our internal customers (Editorial, Product, Business). This role will require you to use both qualitative and quantitative skills. You must use be able to perform quantitative analyses to discover potential research areas and to support the qualitative research that is completed.
Major Responsibilities Include But Are Not Limited To
Drive the understanding of NBC News group end user’s motivations and expectations for using the NBC News properties, through qualitative research
Provide recommendations and expertise to understand key user behaviors with regards to main business metrics
Collaborate with Insights team members to understand and prioritize the consumer insight research needs of internal stakeholders
Plan and conduct consumer research campaigns according to Insights priorities
Provide pertinent customer insights that enhances and guides decision making
Help inform the creation of customer segment personas
Build and improve frameworks and processes for consumer research best practices
Be a subject matter expert to internal stakeholders regarding qualitative research methods, capabilities and data
Work with other Analytics and Insights team members to coordinate data for presentations
Qualifications/Requirements
Basic Qualifications
6+ years professional experience of conducting consumer research / user testing and applying insights in a market research agency or department setting
You have extensive experience with qualitative and quantitative user research, including experimental design, sample selection, recruiting, surveys, focus groups, in-person and remote usability testing, ethnographic field research, and more
You have enough data skills to be self-sufficient in analyzing the results of your qualitative research as well as other quantitative data
A degree in Human Computer Interaction, Human Factors, Psychology, Anthropology, is a plus, but practical experience is just as valued
Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint
Proficiency with statistical software (SAS) a plus

Must be well organized and understand the value of good documentation
Strong listening + presentation skills are a necessity
