The Mellon College of Science (MCS) is home to four departments and many programs and research centers that cross disciplines. We approach scientific problems from fresh angles using creative interdisciplinary approaches while drawing on our departmental strengths in the core sciences. MCS faculty members are nationally and internationally recognized for their research in a variety of fields, including polymer science, cosmology, mathematical finance and neuroscience.
We are seeking a Research Associate to join our team at the Washburn Laboratory in the Department of Chemistry. This is a temporary part time Research Associate position. In this role, you will support a research project on sustainable cement and concrete.
Core responsibilities include:
Preparing samples and running tests of workability, setting time, and strength and analyzing results
Implementing basic machine learning algorithms to develop models to predict how cement composition determines the material characteristics
Assisting in summarizing results and with preparing reports
Performing research experiments following experimental protocol and procedures
Bachelor's degree required
Experience with cementitious materials, plotting and analyzing data using Microsoft Excel, Python Programming
Familiarity with machine learning tools such as regularized regression or random forests
