Primary Function of Organizational Unit
The Laplante lab (Company website/) is an interdisciplinary research group studying the interface of cell biology, physics, and engineering to uncover the architecture-function relationship of cellular structures using a variety of methods including confocal microscopy, laser ablation, and single molecule FPALM/single molecule fluorescence microscopy in fission yeast, Drosophila embryos, and mammalian cells. The successful applicant will gain valuable experience in cutting edge microscopy techniques, as well as competitive interdisciplinary skills.
The Laplante lab is a member of the Quantitative and Computations Developmental Biology cluster (Company website/) which provides an excellent interdisciplinary training environment and opportunity for collaboration. NCSU is a vibrant R1 research university with state-of-the-art facilities and neighboring institutions within Research Triangle Park.
Essential Job Duties
Candidates must have an excellent work ethic, be motivated to learn new techniques and have some experience in molecular and cellular biology.
The responsibilities of the Research Assistant involve but are not limited to:
Generation of transgenic yeast and mammalian cell lines using molecular biology techniques
Confocal and super-resolution microscopy imaging of live samples and quantitative analyses
Must have either a Bachelor’s or Master’s (or higher-level) degree in Biology, Microbiology, Biochemistry, or related field. Experience with basic molecular biology techniques (cloning, PCR, transformation, etc).
Departmental Required Skills
Team player with strong communication skills, good organizational skills, and a willingness to learn.
Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education
Familiarity with MATLAB, yeast, or mammalian cells is a plus, but not necessary.
