Under the direction of a Registered Nurse, the primary functions of the position are as follows: assist in maintaining a therapeutic and safe milieu through monitoring the milieu; observe the individuals we serve directly or indirectly and intervene when necessary according to the individual’s plan of care; participate in a team approach when necessary to provide appropriate interventions for aggressive individuals; provide personal care, which is required for a small percentage of the individuals served such as bathing, feeding, and toileting; escort individuals into the community for medical consults and other activities in preparation for discharge; report to the charge nurse behaviors observed. Some documentation is required.
Work schedule: schedules available include rotating first and second shifts and a limited number of straight second shift positions. All shifts require rotating weekends and holidays.
Must be able to complete a four-week orientation, which includes both classroom and on-the-job training experiences. Classroom training includes, but is not limited to, Therapeutic Options of Virginia (TOVA), a crisis intervention training that teaches staff how to manage aggressive individuals, and Cardiac Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR).
High school diploma or equivalent and valid driver’s license are required. Candidate must have positive communication skills. Candidate must have basic computer skills.
Nurse Aide (CNA) license preferred. Experience working in a health care setting or experience working with individuals diagnosed with mental illness, personality disorders, or substance abuse disorders is preferred.
The successful applicant must pass a criminal history fingerprint background investigation, CPS search, drug screening test and employment reference checks. The applicant must have the ability to perform at the level of physical demands noted on the Employee Work Profile and the verified ability to perform the essential functions of the position.
