What’s my personal contribution?
To be the strategic lead on print sale and promotions, driving the overall circulation of The Sun newspaper, across all regions. To own promotional strategy, working with retail and advertising colleagues, and driving relationships with our partners to influence our sales strategy across England, Scotland and Ireland. To be responsible of the success of print marketing spends and promotional performance, with regular review. To be a main contact with Editorial and responsible for influencing all promotional activity, and print budget owner
What are my Responsibilities & Accountabilities
• With the guidance of the Chief Marketing Officer, be the architect of the print sales strategy, budget and overarching print targets both at retail and through marketing campaigns
• To oversee promotional marketing and partnership strategy, including wholesale and advertising deals, to drive print sale growth
• To be a key interface between Marketing and The Sun editorial teams, co creating and selling in of promotional activities and managing the day-to-day development and execution
• To set budget and report on print KPIs and report progress and results of marketing campaigns, attending regular sales meetings and delivering impact of activity
• Work with finance teams to evaluate print numbers and give regular updates on print sale position against outlooks and against competitors.
• Understanding The Sun marketing values, its positioning and key competitive advantages and translate this into meaningful and effective marketing solutions with the marketing communications teams
• Manage and take ownership of the promotional budget, monitor and ensure delivery of the plan within the agreed budget, evaluate effectiveness of that investment and provide weekly, monthly or quarterly status reports as requested
• Utilise Marketing Insight in all communications, product and brand development and all activation.
• Management, coaching and development of the team through insight, constructive feedback and challenge to enable team effectiveness, ensure consistency with Company / Marketing values and behaviours, and to drive business performance. Responsible for effective use of team resources, division of labour and providing a motivating environment for your team
What do I Know
Useful knowledge, skills and experience
• Experience and proven ability in strategic planning, managing significant marketing budgets, and setting sales plans
• Experience of all media channels. Plus demonstrable understanding of subscription marketing preferred
• An understanding and experience at using a variety of marketing and communication levers
• Experience at managing budgets and evaluating activity effectiveness
• Preferably a deep knowledge of and experience in the media industry
• Commercially and organisationally astute
• Experience and proven ability to influence editorial and securing buy-in to integrated product and marketing plans
• A passion for our brands
• First rate communications skills including outstanding ability to brief 3rd party’s and colleagues, PowerPoint and presentational ability
• Proven management experience
• Good negotiation and relationship skills and an ability to operate within a matrix environment with multiple stakeholders
