The office person’s responsibilities include helping to organize and distribute information quickly and accurately, performing routine office or clerical work following well-defined guidelines and working as needed as a receptionist.
Specific duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
Run work-related errands, deliver and pick up copy, proofs, mail, messages, packages, light supplies, etc. both inside and outside the building and obtain receipts where required; perform elementary office work including photocopying, sorting, counting, filing, collating, inserting etc.; maintain newsroom office equipment and stock supplies; know location of Times departments and staff, recognize and know the location and general functions of personnel throughout the newsroom and newspaper; take and deliver telephone messages; courteously receive visitors and escort them to their destinations; sort incoming mail and other material, collate, route, track or deliver, as appropriate; receive and convey information as needed; respond to or refer inquiries for information, supplies, or maintenance; operate a computer workstation, copying machine and other office equipment.
