While Basketball Operations runs the league’s on-court activities, other departments manage relationships with television and digital media partners, develop marketing partnerships with some of the world’s most recognizable companies, oversee the licensing of Company merchandise, and handle a wide range of responsibilities that drive the Company’s success.
Position Summary: The Manager will serve as in-house expert with a deep understanding of the broadcast and digital media landscape in the Greater China region. The ideal candidate will bring expertise in US- originated content initiatives that can be tailored for in-market media partners. We're looking for a skilled collaborator to work with members of the Programming and global localized content teams, as well as other business groups, to fulfill and add value to media licensing agreements - including, but not limited to, live broadcast, dedicated feed delivery, creative, editorial and production support (e.g., partner-produced Company customized shows), and on-site broadcaster supervision at tentpole events. The Manager acts as a liaison between Company NJ/NY and regional account executives, leveraging existing U.S. resources, creating content offerings and solutions. Fluency in English and Mandarin Chinese is required.
Work with regional broadcasters to enhance coverage, scheduling and production level of live Company games. Troubleshoot as needed, help partners create compelling game and non-game content to drive viewership.
Analyze programming trends and identify content strategies to increase traffic and engage audiences on Company-controlled and licensee platforms.
Create dedicated world feed formats with in-game enhancements (IGEs). Work with Global Partnerships department (both regional and NY-based) on execution of IGEs, including creative planning, production, trafficking and monitoring to ensure all contractual benefits are delivered to clients on-schedule.
Manage integration between TV and digital - including on-air talent sharing - to increase overall cross-platform viewership in-market.
Manage media licensees at tentpole events - e.g., Global Games, All-Star, Finals, Company Draft, Summer League, USAB exhibition games.
Facilitate cooperation and lead on-site meetings between league's Media Operations & Technology department and the event's Host Broadcaster.
Provide programming support to media licensees' promotional campaigns (e.g., player tags).
Manage weekly co-production of Company Primetime (2-hour magazine show on CCTV5) in compliance with contractual obligations. Liaise with region and NBAE to manage show P&L, proactively identify and develop new programming concepts/formats during full production cycle, and engage with digital/social to facilitate cross-platform promotion.
◦ Includes editorial and production planning responsibilities, coordinating weekly content delivery to CCTV, lead US-based original production efforts with teams.
◦ Manage day-to-day content communications between Company China TV department, CCTV's HQ in Beijing and show's US-based work-for-hire production house.
Manage current portfolio of 45 partner-produced Company customized shows. Supervise external media monitoring agency to provide content analysis for overall content audit. Update sample episodes for management and licensees review.
Share best practices for customized shows and other global content from U.S. & int'l field shoots with players/legends.
Additional on-site partner support outside of Greater China as needed (e.g., at league events held in other regions).
Support Programming SVP with Company & FIBA relationship - e.g., tactical communications with FIBA re: content collaborations, creating and maintaining FIBA events calendar, updating and notifying key internal league stakeholders regarding FIBA parameters for highlight rights.
6 - 10 years of work experience in production & media partnership management
Strong communication skills, both verbal and written (fluent in English & Mandarin) that demonstrate expertise within area of focus but also elicit contributions and considerations from others
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
Extensive knowledge of the Company and international basketball landscape
Knowledge of production process (creative development, delivery, budgeting)
Account management skills
Content management experience, including experience with digital file transfers using FTP-ASPERA and ability to quickly understand Company Content Network workflow
Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook
