This position is responsible for all indirect state and local governmental tax compliance including but not limited to sales and use tax, property tax, and the business licensing for all taxing authorities in the US, Canada, and Puerto Rico. This position will be responsible for the accurate and timely completion of all required account reconciliations, review and analysis of accruals, management, and oversight of third party compliance service providers, the development, training, and mentoring of staff, and supporting the audit team as needed.
Major Responsibilities/Essential Functions:
Ensures timely and accurate completion of filings related to the Company’s corporate sales and use, property, and other indirect tax compliance. Reviews and analyzes new tax rules and changes to existing tax rules to ensure the Company’s continued compliance.
Prepare monthly reconciliation of accounts/accruals, identifying and researching differences, follow up to ensure that reconciling items are resolved in a timely manner; record necessary accounting entries; and prepare annual budgets and forecasts.
Leads the Dallas indirect tax team including the development, training, and mentoring of staff. Manage relationship with third party compliance service provider. Work with the tax, IT, finance and accounting teams on process improvements in the compliance process.
Researches tax issues and assists both with addressing tax issues in connection with special projects and with developing tax savings/risk minimization strategies. Monitor current law changes along with proposed and pending tax legislation for the US and Canada.
Ensure the appropriate documentation and records are retained to support tax filing positions that may become subject to audit or review. Organize and provide timely replies to sales, use and property tax notices. Assist with state and local indirect tax audits as needed.
Education Required: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business
Required or Acceptable Job-Related Experience: Sales & use tax experience in public accounting/corporate tax
Years of Job-Related Experience Required: Minimum of 5 years
Technical/Other Skills Required: CPA, Masters in Tax, JD/LLM a plus. Proficiency with tax return software (Vertex, OneSource, PTMS, LicenseHQ), financial systems, and tax research tools (CCH, RIA, BNA, etc). Experience with Retail, POS, and sales tax requirements. Strong analytical and communication skills.
