Responsibilities
NBC News is seeking a Programming Finance Manager to be responsible for overseeing the budgets for MSNBC’s programming specials, correspondent coverage, and breaking news events. The role will report to the Sr. Director, MSNBC Finance, and work closely with the Sr. Manager, MSNBC Programming.
Job Duties
Collaborate with Editorial and Tech to build a bottoms up budget for all the MSNBC specific programming specials including revamping the current financial model to be more user-friendly and less unwieldy
Actualize event costs in real time to include: generating flash updates 1-2 days after each event, creating event post-mortem summaries to be distributed to all key stakeholders, and working to provide transparency on any cost overages and identifying offsets
Coordinate with Newsgathering team on events that span News/MSNBC
Build and manage Coverage budgets for MSNBC Correspondents
Provide cost trending reports to Editorial and ensure coverage plans are captured in pacing
Implement formalized reporting / tracking process around coverage spend
Coordinate with MSNBC Programming to manage Dayside shows on the road budget
Work with various news teams to ensure cost allocations are in line with previously agreed upon methodology
Maintain breaking news cost tracker and ensure costs are reflected accurately for pacing and go-forward budgeting
Standardize breaking news models used by News/MSNBC
Qualifications/Requirements
Basic Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Business, Accounting, Finance, Economics or related discipline
Must already be at a Manager-level and have at least three years’ experience in a finance capacity
Qualified candidates must know how to build financial models
Must be proficient in Excel and PowerPoint
Previous experience utilizing intermediate-level SAP is a must
