Responsibilities
Summary
Manages the staff and day-to-day operations of the Costume Department; partners with Costume Production Sr. Management in overseeing the maintenance and inventories of all costumes ensuring that the operational condition of all elements are of high quality and quantity needs are met; supports the scope for ongoing Entertainment costume operations and events, and implements new costumes into the operation as needed.
Essential Functions:
• Manage Supervisors and hourly Costumers, Leads and Dressers in the costume operations venues including delegation of projects, duties, and assignments for ongoing operational development, process improvement and implementation. Assist, as needed or designated, with daily oversight of Skilled Craft.
• Oversee the daily costume operation including: issuing and tracking of daily character costumes, monitoring and motivating staff, facilitating inter-departmental communication, developing and implementing standard operating procedures, coaching, monitoring and tracking the staff’s work processes, instructing and guiding costume staff in required daily work goals and procedures (including problem solving and repair for daily issues).
• Responsible for labor and non-labor budgets in partnership with Sr. Manager of Costume Production and Director of Operations. Responsible for tracking and reconciling costs; generates and/or gives approval of purchase orders and purchase requisitions for operational product; supports multiple budgets, venues, and client groups.
• Lead Costume staff and Entertainment management partners in conjunction with Sr. Manager and Manager of Costume Production on solutions to costume functional, operational issues. Ensure all costumes are properly maintained. Oversee operational inventories and ensure orders are initiated as needed. Maintain quality control for all costume pieces.
• Maintain team member schedules with Supervisors and Workforce, Planning & Analysis team. Perform proper and timely administration of daily payroll/time keeping. Maintain staffing levels and hire/train new operational team members as needed.
• Communicate consistently with the salaried/seasonal staff by giving feedback for both recognition and improvement daily.
• Communicate with management and hourly team members, keeping communication open to maintain positive team member relations. Provide timely performance reviews to team members. Ensure supervisors apply discipline according to company and department procedures.
• Ensure that collective bargaining agreements are upheld by partnering with Human Resources and Labor Relations in providing input, addressing issues and maintaining positive union relationships.
• Develop and implements programs to improve guest and employee satisfaction. Ensure appropriate and timely investigation and responses to guest and employee concerns.
• Monitor safety practices and respond to safety concerns. Implement Company sanctioned safety procedures. Investigate and resolve EHS issues.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications/Requirements
• Minimum 5 years of operations management and team leadership experience
• Experience in costume technology, maintenance, care and operations
• Must be available to work on weekends, holidays and nights as required.
• Able to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and walking/traveling to multiple venues throughout the day
Desired Characteristics
• Bachelor’s Degree preferred
• Theme Park Operations knowledge
• Experience with costume repair and production preferred
• Experience operating costumes, masks, prosthetics, or wigs preferred
• Must have excellent written and verbal skills to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization
• Must be proficient in Microsoft programs such as Word and Excel.
• Strong interpersonal and analytical skills
• Proactive thinker/self-starter
• Experience managing in a union environment
