Job Description & Qualifications
This is a Manufacturing Engineering position within the Global Powertrain Manufacturing Engineering skill team. The successful candidate will be working with a global team to develop and implement laser welding processes on electric motor programs that support Ford’s electric vehicle programs.
Lead prototype and production laser welding process development for stator manufacturing including hairpins, bridges, jumpers and lead wires.
Commonize laser welding processes across different manufacturing lines globally
Work with Advanced Manufacturing Center/ Research Innovation Center / Aachen University to communicate/develop future laser welding needs for electrification programs
Standardize laser welding equipment, process, methods for electrification programs
Work with manufacturing supply base to incorporate standard process and methods into their designs
Source, design, procure, and launch welding equipment for new motor programs (includes controls, productivity, layout, material handling & kitting, workstation engineering, virtual assembly or manufacturing builds, washers, facilities, OEM’s, plant teams etc.)
Drive resolution of manufacturing concerns and feasibility issues within the Component Program Module Team (CPMT).
Incorporate continuous improvements utilizing Continuous Improvement / Lessons Learned, Deviation and Decision Record Process.
Issue Purchase Requisitions for all process related equipment.
Drive Investment Efficiency process with Product Development and Manufacturing Equipment Suppliers.
Lead development and maintain process documentation.
Use DCP, Process Failure Mode & Effect Analysis (PFMEA), Process Illustrations, tool set up drawings etc.
Provide cost estimates and achieving F&T / HPU objectives.
Participate in Peer Reviews – share and Cascade Lessons Learned. 24. Interface with plant teams such as the launch team, NML, skilled trades and the groups responsible for maintenance planning and spare requisitioning.
Work globally and cross-functionally to support regional programs
Bachelor’s Degree in Weld Engineering or Manufacturing Engineering or Process Engineering
Experience in laser welding of copper wire
3+ Years of experience with manufacturing processes
3+ Years of experience with automotive or motor applications
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Experience in a manufacturing environment
Expertise and understanding in SharePoint
Experience with Project Manager Microsoft office tools (Excel, Word, MS Project)
Ability to communicate effectively with globally distributed teams; the ability to adjust communications appropriately for the audience; work with all levels of management and diverse work groups
Ability to travel to support program and equipment launches
Self-starting, self-directed with extremely good influential, organizational and interpersonal
