JOB DUTIES
- Installing, decommissioning, and maintaining data center electrical distribution and structured data/voice cabling.
- Following industry standards for data centers including but not limited to ITIL, ASHRAE, Uptime Institute, NFPA, BICSI, EIA/TIA, IEEE.
- Complex preventive and corrective maintenance, repairs and installations of electrical, data/voice, mechanical, plumbing and/or HVAC equipment, machinery and controls located in the interior and exterior of buildings.
- Working under the chief engineer’s direction will monitor data center and building system operation and performance.
- Building, testing, and certifying copper and fiber structured cabling.
- Learning functions of critical and specialized equipment and processes at client site.
- Thorough understanding of ARC Flash, NFPA 70E, lockout tagout, and proper usage of PPE.
- Working daily in a 24x7 Data Center environment.
- Ability to operate, repair, install, and maintain 480-volt switchgear, generators, UPS, batteries, static transfer switches, automatic transfer switches, and programmable circuit breakers.
- Electrical troubleshooting and repairs including electrical controls schemes.
- Following and understanding SOP's, MOP's, and EMOP's.
- Electrical and data/voice installation, demolition, troubleshooting, maintenance, and repair.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Knowledge of all applicable codes, regulations, and industry best practices related to data center operations and work safety.
- Operate, inspect, and maintain electrical systems, data/voice infrastructure, mechanical, and electrical equipment in the data center and on the campus to achieve most efficient results.
- Installs, maintains, and decommissions equipment in a safe manner.
- Minimizes down time through proactive performance testing and scheduled maintenance.
- Following all applicable codes and regulations troubleshoots and resolves electrical wiring and circuitry problems, installs and repairs electrical equipment and wiring, installs structured data/voice cabling, roughs in feeders, branch circuit cables and circuits, splices electric cables/trunk lines, and burns in and commissions electrical devices.
- Maintains the cleanliness and appearance of the property, equipment, engineering spaces, and common areas.
- Maintains the building lighting system, including element and ballast repairs or replacements.
- Maintains accurate inventory of supplies and tools.
- Takes measurements for the energy management program to ensure all systems are operating in an efficient manner.
- Monitors and reviews outside contractors via the quality assurance program.
- Follows standard operating procedures and/or critical work packages, and maintenance work instructions.
- Responds to emergency situations and customer concerns.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED) plus a minimum of 4 years’ experience as a licensed electrician.
- Completion a formal apprenticeship program preferred.
- Prior experience with DDC and EMS preferred.
- Prior experience with data/voice cabling infrastructure preferred.
CERTIFICATES and/or LICENSES
- Minnesota State Journeyman Electrician license required.
- BICSI installer certification required within first 90 days.
- CPR/AED certification required within first 90 days.
- Additional certifications/licenses as may be required by local or state jurisdictions.
- Driver's license required.
COMMUNICATION SKILLS
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong organizational and analytical skills.
- Ability to provide efficient, timely, reliable and courteous service to customers.
- Ability to effectively present information.
REASONING ABILITY
- Ability to comprehend, analyze, and interpret documents.
- Ability to solve problems involving several options in situations.
- Requires intermediate analytical and quantitative skills
OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES
- Uses personal computer and/or PDA for work order system, email, ESS and training.
- Basic skills with Microsoft Office Outlook.
- Basic skills with Microsoft Excel
- Basic skills with Microsoft Word
- Physical requirements include stooping, standing, walking, climbing stairs / ladders and ability to lift / carry heavy loads of 50 lbs. or more.
