The Department of Mathematics and Statistics at Company (Company) invites applications for two (2) Visiting Assistant Professor or Visiting Instructor of Mathematics positions for one year beginning Fall 2020.
Rank is dependent on education and experience.
This position is considered a “Responsible Employee” under Title IX federal regulations and “Mandatory Reporter” under Texas state law and The Company Sexual Misconduct Policy. As a Mandatory Reporter, this position requires you as the employee to promptly report any incident that you witness or receive information about violating Title IX. These reporting responsibilities are set out in the Company Sexual Misconduct Policy.
Duties and responsibilities of faculty members at the University include teaching undergraduate level courses and contribute to the Department’s mission. The Visiting Assistant Professor or Visiting Instructor of Mathematics is expected to teach five courses in the fall semester and five courses in the spring semester. Faculty are expected to be flexible and course assignments are based on student and department needs with multiple preps expected. Responsibilities include teaching a variety of undergraduate courses in mathematics and/or statistics and consistent with the needs of the department, providing individual help to students during office hours, and participating in department, college , and university meetings and discussions. Official duties and responsibilities of faculty members at the University include teaching, scholarship, service and professional activities. In all matters, faculty are expected to maintain the highest standards of professional ethics consistent with the Company Mission.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
-Possess excellent communication and strong interpersonal skills;
-Strong background in analysis (real, complex, and numerical). -Knowledge to teach undergraduate courses in mathematics including the calculus sequence;
-Ability to teach classes in at least one programming language;
-Desire to collaborate with students and faculty within the department and from other disciplines to support the mission of the Company;
-Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse communities and cultures;
-Employee shall adhere to all applicable rules and regulations of the University, the Conference, and the NCAA
-PhD or M.S. in Applied Mathematics, Math Education, or Statistics or closely related area with least 18 graduate hours in mathematics or statistics at the time of appointment;
-PhD is required for consideration at the Visiting Assistant Professor rank;
-M.S. is required for consideration at the Visiting Instructor rank
Required Work Experience
-Experience teaching at the college level;
-Demonstration of the highest standards of excellence in teaching and proficiency in any areas of Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, Math Education, Statistics or related fields
-Knowledgeable in pedagogy and teaching techniques, especially to first-time college students and students from undeserved populations;
-Significant experience with instructional technology and remote/online teaching technology;
Required Certifications, Licenses or Registrations
Any certificates to verify credentials stated above will be helpful, but not required.
