Role of this position:
The role of this position is to support the academic management of the English Language Foundation Programme and English Academic Support processes, both on Midrand Campus and later, if rolled out on the Remote Sites. This Head of Programme is responsible for the quality and success of all academic activities and services related to the English Language Foundation Programme based at the Midrand and other sites.
To support and assist the Manager of the Foundation and Academic Support programmes Unit through:
• Monitoring and assisting in the academic and personal development of the students on the English Language Foundation Programme
• Assisting in the administration and departmental affairs and activities as required by the Manager of the Foundation and Academic Support programmes Unit
• To work with the Manager of the Foundation and Academic Support programmes Unit on developing new course materials, assessments and curricula as required.
• To implement appropriate efficacy and research measurements
• To lecture within the English Language Foundation Programme.
• To manage allocated lecturers and tutors to ensure the success of the English Language Foundation Programme
Qualifications
Minimum qualification:
• A relevant honours degree with an undergraduate degree preferably with a Masters or studying towards a Masters.
• An appropriate TEFL/TESL/CETLA type qualification
• A relevant education qualification such as Post Graduate qualification in education (e.g. HDE, PGCE, PGCHE) will be an advantage
Experience:
• Knowledge of higher education practices and processes
• Knowledge of English Language education practices and processes, especially English for specific Academic purposes (ESAP); English for Foreign Language speakers (EFL) and English for Second Language speakers (ESL)
• A minimum of five years academic experience in Lecturing or teaching experience is essential at a higher education level or within a similar level of EFL or ESL context
• Relevant Research experience will be an advantage
