Medtronic Energy and Component Center has a position available for a Senior Engineering Manager in the batteries value stream. The candidate will provide leadership in support of medical device components manufactured to exceed customer expectations. This role acts as an influential manager within a matrix organization to a team of skilled engineers and technicians with in high volume manufacturing; and provides strong cross functional leadership to realize new products, manage talent, drive continuous improvement to existing lines and deliver value for the customer. This individual will apply proven communication skills, problem-solving skills, and knowledge of best practices to guide their operations team on issues related to the quality, customer service and cost down on critical components.
A Day in the Life:
The candidate must be self-driven with strong basic technical skill, knowledge of statistical methods, excellent management/coaching and leadership skills. The position is responsible for setting direction for the group, aligning with organizational goals and objectives, and ensuring consistent work direction within the group.
Set clear objectives, evaluate progress against objectives, and instill performance-oriented culture with a focus on accountability.
Provide resource allocation guidance to the engineering group through analysis of current and future workload and skill availability.
Assure the integration of structured problem solving and project management into engineering projects through coaching, training and practice.
Emphasize a proactive approach to achieve optimal manufacturing targets prior on high volume production
Partner with research, technology and process development to ensure new components flawlessly launch
Actively participate in operations strategic planning to assure alignment with strategic business direction and review voice of the customer data
Ensure functional standards and procedures are followed
Review project specifications, resource estimates and scheduling.
Attract and retain talent within team in order to build a highly empowered culture
Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned.
+ Plans, directs and implements all aspects of the company's design and development of new medical device products or software systems.
+ May develop, evaluate, implement and maintain technical quality assurance and control systems or reliability systems and standards pertaining to materials, techniques, or company products.
+ Oversees the investigation and evaluation of existing technologies.
+ Guides the conceptualization of new methodologies, materials, machines, processes or products.
+ Directs the development of new concepts from initial design to market release.
+ Manages feasibility studies of the design to determine if capable of functioning as intended.
+ Monitors documentation maintenance throughout all phases of research and development.
+ Organizes the coordination of activities with outside suppliers and consultants to ensure timely delivery.
+ Selects, develops and evaluates personnel to ensure the efficient operation of the function.
BS degree in Engineering/Science with at least 7 years of technical work experience in manufacturing engineering or product development and a minimum of 5 years of experience providing work direction and leadership to people. A track record of developing and implementing broad improvement initiatives. Demonstrated communication skills, both verbal and written.
Nice to Have:
MS in Engineering or Science field or MBA degree 10+ years of experience in manufacturing engineering or product development in medical device with 7+ years managing engineers/technicians and leading teams. Prior project management experience. Prior experience managing corrective and preventive actions or quality issues. Prior experience with Medtronic product or process development Prior experience in FDA regulated medical environments.
