Editorial Assistant, Knopf
Alfred A. Knopf was founded in 1915 and has long been known as a publisher of distinguished hardcover fiction and nonfiction. Its list of authors includes Toni Morrison, John Updike, Cormac McCarthy, Alice Munro, Anne Rice, Anne Tyler, Jane Smiley, Richard Ford, Julia Child, Peter Carey, Kazuo Ishiguro, and Michael Ondaatje, as well as such classic writers as Thomas Mann, Willa Cather, John Hersey, and John Cheever.
We are currently seeking an Assistant to join the Knopf Doubleday Publishing Group’s Editorial team. The position provides an opportunity to assist two senior-level professionals in the areas of literary fiction, women’s fiction, and serious narrative nonfiction. It will be responsible for assisting with daily editorial activities, including proposal/manuscript screening, copy writing, and project support. In addition to providing administrative support, the position also acts as a liaison between authors, agents and different departments within the company.
Evaluating manuscripts and proposals
Assisting with the coordination of the editorial and production process
Writing catalog/flap copy
Acting as a liaison between authors/agents and the editorial department
Additional requirements we are looking for include:
A strong writer who has a broad reading sensibility
Excellent organizational skills and the ability to prioritize in a high volume environment
Ability to pay close attention to detail
Strong communication skills, both verbal & written
Strong interpersonal skills, & ability to multi-task successfully
Ability to work independently and meet deadlines
Experience speaking, reading, translating, and writing in French and Spanish a plus, but not a requirement.
Salary for this position is $40,000.
