Responsibilities
The role of the Director, Software Engineering is to plan, execute, and deliver software, according to project timing and budget, for Company’s Marketing & Sales teams. This leader will develop the strategic direction to deliver world-class experiences for both internal and external customers, including E-Commerce for web applications, internal customers at the Guest Contact Center and in-park applications for Team Members.
This leader will be accountable to direct the efforts of team members and third-party contractors or consultants in order to deliver software according to plan, defining project objectives, and ensuring quality control throughout the software delivery lifecycle. The qualified candidate will have experience in aligning business and technology objectives to software delivery, building a high-powered team of technologists, and collaborating with business and technology leaders across the organization to prioritize software development needs and ensure deadlines are met.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Team Empowerment – Guide the application development team, which includes team members and third-party contractors and consultants, to deliver excellent digital experiences
• Strategic Vision – As the primary software development interface to other IT teams, define project scope and deliverables to support program goals in collaboration with program management, solution architecture, and IT security, and operations
Accountability – Determine the budget forecast to achieve project delivery goals, and ensure financial targets are met
• Continuous Improvement – Establish the software development process in alignment with best practices for Continuous Integration / Continuous Development
• Mentorship – Lead software (design & code) reviews, and ensure all members of the development team follow the established software development processes, providing mentorship to build a high-performing team
• Evaluate new technologies and incorporate them into existing and new applications
SCOPE: Supervisory / Mentoring -- Responsible for building a team of software developers, and leading them in best practices, including Agile Delivery, Continuous Integration, Continuous Delivery, and Zero Downtime Deployments.
• Resource Planning -- Responsible for meeting project delivery scope and timeline, by appropriately allocating resources, both Team Members and Contractors.
• Financial -- Responsible for planning and forecasting project budgets.
• Contract -- Responsible for preparing and evaluating RFPs and SOWs, with the Sourcing team.
Qualifications/Requirements
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Educational background – BS CS/EE or equivalent
• Professional experience of developing enterprise-scale web/cloud-based software products
• Expertise with J2EE design patterns, version control practices, security, data privacy practices, and code management
• Expertise with enterprise load balancing, server configuration, queuing, caching, messaging, and webservices.
• Expertise with both front-end and back-end technologies, including AngularJS, NodeJS, Java / J2EE, JavaScript, HTML, CSS, REST, SQL, MongoDB
• Experience with Agile Software Development, Continuous Integration / Delivery (CI / CD), and Zero Down Time Deployments for application resiliency
• Strong technical and interpersonal leadership skills
• Proven experience interacting with all levels of business and technical project stakeholders
• Ability to lead and mentor a team of software developers, with a goal of building a high-performing team
• Experience with evaluating new technologies and incorporating them into existing and new applications
• Strong analytical, planning, and organizational skills with an ability to manage competing demands
• Well respected and acknowledged as an expert by peers

EDUCATION: Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s preferred in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or Electrical Engineering.
EXPERIENCE:
• Required Professional Experience:
◦ 10+ years of developing enterprise-scale web/cloud-based software products
◦ 5+ years of expertise with J2EE design patterns, version control practices, security, data privacy practices, and code management
◦ 5+ years of expertise with enterprise load balancing, server configuration, queuing, caching, messaging, and webservices.
◦ 5+ years of expertise with both front-end and back-end technologies, including AngularJS, NodeJS, Java / J2EE, JavaScript, HTML, CSS, REST, SQL, MongoDB
◦ 5+ years of experience with managing an Agile Software Development team; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Preferred Professional Experience:
◦ 5+ years of experience with Continuous Integration / Delivery (CI / CD), and Zero Down Time Deployments for application resiliency
