We have an exciting leadership opportunity in our Company Secure Communications business. We are seeking a Director to manage and provide vision for our Networking, Modeling and Simulation (NM&S) engineering team to support model development, engineering analysis, and networking design of secure communication systems.
This functional management position provides oversight and direction to a motivated team of direct reports responsible for developing communications systems models and the associated networking solutions.
This opportunity requires vision of what the NM&S engineering team needs to become in order to support both current internal and external customer needs and to architect and evolve the team as required to capture and execute future business growth.

Directs and provides leadership to NM&S direct reports. Provides guidance and direction through close coordination and oversight of employees and managers as required. Establishes objectives and long-range goals of the NM&S team that are consistent and in-line with that of the business. Ensures NM&S team is appropriately staffed, correctly trained, embodies the appropriate talents and skillsets, has a sound succession plan that does not have single points of failure, and supports employee career planning. Provides technical consultation and council to the Chief Engineer, CTO, and General Manager as needed. Supports the establishment of best practices and continuous improvement throughout all of Engineering and especially within the NM&S team. This position typically works under limited supervision and direction and incumbents of this position will regularly exercise discretionary and substantial decision-making authority.
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities may include:
Responsible for the mentoring and career planning for direct reports, including conflict resolution as necessary
Participates in the performance evaluation process of direct reports and recommends salary adjustments and personnel actions to include hiring, discipline, and recognition
Develop the appropriate inter-disciplinary skill sets resident in the NM&S team needed to meet a growing number of NM&S requests from programs, customers, executive management, and strategic development; while establishing/maintaining positive relationships with industry NM&S SMEs such as consultants and sub-contractors
Organizing and managing the parallel execution of multiple, diverse, complex analysis tasks
May participate in or lead a team effort to solve engineering problems or develop improved engineering processes
Serve as a company expert regarding all Networking, Modeling & Simulation engineering
Reviewing engineering documents, modeling detailed communication networks, running different levels of simulations (engineering/physics based, mission-level, campaign-level), analyzing results, identifying root causes of issues and areas of improvement, preparing and delivering summary briefings
Support proposals and new program starts, ensuring proper engineering planning and baseline establishment for success, with traceability to “as-bid” cost estimates and schedule
Communicate (both written and verbal) clear and crisp insights and observations based on complex analytical models and technical data interpretation to senior-level leadership and external customers. Present technical results in a comprehensive, technical manner
Maintain and update a set of standard NM&S services across Secure Communications projects while engaging with key stakeholders across the company. Efficiently pair the right tools and analytical process with the particular NM&S task. Examples include: Communication System Network effectiveness analysis, Analysis of alternatives/engineering trade studies, Cost Analysis, and Requirements development
Maintain state-of-the-art awareness in areas of technical expertise such as changes, advancements and improvements
Develop algorithms as required
Model a variety of scenarios and conduct trade space analyses
Defining and analyzing communication systems and evaluating system performance for various scenarios and vignettes
Developing end-to-end communication system architecture analyses and simulating operational tasking and resource utilization
Performing system-level CONOPS development, functional analysis and requirement decomposition
Understand the impact of, and optimize the modeling simulation workflow for efficiency vs accuracy
Architect & develop scripts to import and export key aspects of the model to/from other models
Involved in proposal activities, including authoring or reviewing proposal technical volume material
Interfaces with team members, management staff, customers, subcontractors and vendors
Determines the technical direction and strategy for solving complex and difficult engineering problems
Identifies technical risks and associated ways to mitigate risks
Resolves NM&S related conflicts/problems in support of projects and programs
Minimum Job Requirements:
Four-year college degree, in engineering, or other related technical discipline plus twelve years’ related experience, with a minimum of five years’ supervisory experience. Experience to include exercising creativity in technical direction and successful strategy development. Ability to interpret technical contract requirements. Ability to effectively communicate verbally, and in writing, and deal with employees and managers at all levels in engineering and other functional organizations. Ability to travel both domestically and internationally. Must be willing to work extended hours and weekends as needed.
5+ years of experience conducting engineering analysis, modeling, and simulation of communication systems
5+ years of experience performing networking engineering design of communication systems
Demonstrated Modeling and Analysis experience in MATLAB or other related modeling tools. Work experience with Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) and Cameo. Able to work across multiple disciplines, experience with early system definition and MBSE is desired
Proactive, self-starting, independent individual with strong interpersonal, analytical, communication, and leadership skills
Must possess the ability to resolve management and technical problems. Strong communication, leadership, presentation, and interpersonal skills are required to enable an effective interface with other departments, all levels of management, professional and support staff, customers, potential customers, and government representatives
Knowledge in several of the following: network protocols and applications including TCP/IP, QoS algorithms, LOS and BLOS communication systems network protocols, and network security
Solid technical writing, preparation and presentation of briefings to senior officials, and comfortable articulating/abstracting key findings at a higher level
Demonstrated knowledge in the application of engineering principles, concepts, theory, and practice as well as project management and leadership skills including organizing, planning, scheduling, and coordinating workloads to meet established deadlines or milestones
Experience with handling and processing large amounts of field and simulation data, including user-friendly visualization of complex test setups and simulation results, including measurement accuracies, system latencies, etc.
PhD in related Technology Domain
Complementary expertise in the areas of signal processing, guidance navigation & control, hardware/software design, system integration and test
Knowledge of DoD air, land, sea, and space technical and acquisition communities
Possession of current Secret or Top Secret DoD security clearance
