The Company Merchandising Group (NMG) is a world-class merchandising organization focused on consumer-centric merchandising. NMG is responsible for buying, planning and allocating merchandise across all Company channels – Company and Company Rack, stores and online.
A key enabler of NMG’s success is our NMG Merchandise Operations team. This team supports our merchants through execution of tactical buying process activities primarily around setting up and maintaining supplier, item, order and price information. NMG Merch Ops also supports a variety of other areas including competitive intelligence, customer special orders and management of our prosthesis program. This team supports day-to-day business across Company, and also plays an important role in the growth areas of our business where processes and capabilities need to be defined.
This team is on a multi-year journey focused on increasing productivity, while continuing to meet the needs of the business and ensure data integrity. Efficiencies have and will continue to be driven by a combination of people, process and technology improvements identified by team leadership and partners across the organization.
The Director of Merchandise Operations is responsible for leading this team. The ideal Director of Merchandise Operations has demonstrated strong leadership with large teams, an efficiency and continuous improvement mindset to drive productivity, an ability to manage workload and a labor force against budget, strong partnership skills to collaborate across the organization and strategic capabilities to define the path forward for this team. This position is supported by the VP, NMG Strategy & Operations.
Responsibilities:
• Lead NMG Merchandise Operations team, including evolving organization structure, developing, retaining and hiring talent, and day to day leadership of a large team
• Drive team productivity by partnering with technology on tools and systems, and identifying and prioritizing process and people improvements
• Develop and manage to budget, amidst workload fluctuations and uncertainties
• Establish operational goals and track, monitor and report out on key department metrics
• Set vision for the team and develop multi-year roadmap to achieving vision
• Partner across the organization – both upstream and downstream stakeholders – to improve visibility and daily flow of work and to identify improvement opportunities for Company
• Understand industry trends and serve as a liaison for Company with key industry organizations and the vendor community to improve communication and information flow
• Support new growth initiatives for Company and efforts to drive forward our strategic pillar of Fashion Authority
Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
• 8+ years of leadership experience in progressively larger/broader roles
• Experience leading large teams, particularly hourly production employees
• Knowledge of merchandising processes and systems across Full price, Off price, Direct and International businesses
• Clear and effective written and verbal communication and strong interpersonal skills
• Ability to build strong relationships and collaborate with peers and senior leadership
