DESCRIPTION
Director, Company API Gateway
Serverless computing is rapidly changing how every company - from 2-person startups to the largest of the Fortune 100 - think about building and delivering software solutions. API Gateway is the “front door” to AWS, hosting API calls and managing API usage and lifecycles for companies of every size and for workloads that span bots to big data.
We’re seeking an executive-level candidate to be the General Manager for Company API Gateway. This leader will own and operate all aspects of the business, carrying direct P&L responsibility (top and bottom line) and adoption goals and with hard-line reporting of the Seattle-based product management and engineering/ops teams. Candidates will partner closely with peer organizations to achieve successful business outcomes in the API space, including marketing, business development, sales, and legal teams. This is a highly visible position that will interact at all levels of the AWS and Company website businesses: The ability to collaborate effectively with other senior leaders both inside and outside the company is a key requirement for this role, and experience in driving business initiatives and reviews with C*-level executives is a must. Demonstrated experience in developing and executing communication and adoption programs that include analyst, industry thought leaders, and CIO/CTOs of Fortune 1000 companies is highly desirable.
To keep up with that rapidly growing demand and the business opportunity it represents, we need leaders who are adept at scaling their organizations, their services, and themselves. In addition to owning the business outcomes, an AWS GM role requires depth engagement with customer requirements, product design and product roadmaps, engineering and architecture, and operations and management of the service. Ancillary requirements include analyst engagement, evangelism and public speaking, and customer relations management. A successful candidate will have owned product management and engineering teams and have a strong track record of delivery in terms of both features and service “ilities” (availability, scalability, and performance) and be adept at making informed and accurate tradeoffs among competing ends.
Build and lead a world-class organization
API Gateway is one of the fastest growing services in the AWS portfolio. Scaling both the organization and the service to keep pace with rapidly growing customer demand is critical, and demonstrated success in creating and managing high growth organizations and businesses is key. As the API Gateway GM, you will continue the process of building a world-class organization focused on innovating for the customer.
A successful candidate for this role will be a comprehensive leader – part builder, part operator, a passionate advocate for customer needs, and an unyielding driver for successful delivery of business results. This leader will build a strategy focused on growing scale and usage for existing customers at the same time that we are creating new features to delight an ever-expanding set of new customers. This includes building innovative, best in class user experiences that will delight customers, driving new functionality that enables more and more applications and businesses to move to the cloud, supporting the at-scale API management needs of the largest companies on the planet, and delivering a robust 100% uptime experience to all customers.
