Responsibilities and Qualifications
Federal Ammunition is seeking a Design Drafter to prepare preliminary and refined design drawings of machine parts, tools, gages, products and assemblies to support the Engineering and Manufacturing processes under the direction of senior Designers.
Makes new or revised preliminary and refined design from objects, rough sketches or verbal or written instructions from engineers.
Performs mathematical computations necessary to establish unspecified angles and dimensions for drawings.
Create and maintain SolidWorks models of machine parts and tools to support design projects and the manufacturing (Numerical Control) of machine parts and tools in the Machine Shop.
Revises current drawings per Engineering Change Order (ECO) specifications, changing views and dimensions as necessary to keep drawings in balance.
Learn and maintain knowledge of SolidWorks computer aided design system functions and capabilities. Use SolidWorks system in daily project work.
Discusses specifications with engineers and makes production line observations as necessary to complete work assignments.
Keeps supervisor informed of all important matters which must be known to manage the drafting area effectively.
Observes all department and Company safety and housekeeping rules.
Performs other duties as the need is apparent or as assigned.
2 year AAS Degree in Mechanical Drafting
Familiarity with engineering math concepts (algebra, trigonometry, geometry)
CAD/CAM experience preferred
Knowledge of direct air system (cylinders, ladder diagrams, schematics, etc.)
Additional Desirable Qualifications
Computer software experience with SolidWorks, and Microsoft Office
Most time is spent sitting with occasional standing and walking in the immediate work area or in manufacturing. Frequent lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling weights of up to 10 pounds. Periodic climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling when observing production processes. Reaching, handling, and fingering (manual dexterity) for work on computer, function keyboard, measuring machine parts, products or tooling. Vision required for creating drawings, reading measurements and observing production processes.
Reading for technical materials and engineering drawings and math skills for calculations and conversions. Attention to detail for design work. Reasoning and problem solving and attentiveness to tasks and deadlines. Flexibility to handle many projects simultaneously and attentiveness to time deadlines. Individual initiative to complete projects in a timely fashion. Verbal and written communication skills to communicate with vendors and internal associates (customers). Work direction given to associates working on the assigned projects.
Telephone, computer, keyboard, function keyboard, calculator, drafting tools and measurement equipment.
A majority of time spent in office environment. Approximately 5% of work is in a manufacturing environment subject to temperature changes, dirt, dust, noise, vibration, moving objects, equipment hazards and explosive hazards. All work is done with or around others. Frequent contact with outside vendors.
