The News Producer is a key part of Company’ digital video news operation. They will be responsible for creating timely and dynamic video news content on and off platform. The ideal candidate is news-obsessed and is comfortable working in a fast-paced environment. You have strong news judgement, are a self-starter and pay attention to detail in technical and editorial responsibilities.
This role is focused on staying on top of the daily news video operation –– you’ll manage live feeds; write, produce and edit compelling digital news videos; identify newsworthy video clips and collaborate with other desks across the newsroom. You’ll be the main liaison between the video team and the home page and ensure that our desk is contributing to the Times’s biggest daily stories.
Create a high volume of engaging videos that aligns with the news of the day and The Times’ central mission.
Be aware of and read-in on the day’s international, national and political news.
Train and advise associate producers and junior staff in writing and editing news videos.
Manage live feeds on-site and off-site
May work on a range of Times video content, including breaking news, enterprise and show/series production.
Coordinate and communicate with the newsdesk and other newsroom desks to place and promote videos
6+ years of experience working in a newsroom as a daily or breaking news producer in either a digital or broadcast environment.
Must be comfortable working on tight, demanding deadlines and in high-stress breaking news situations.
Must be highly organized with the ability to manage the work of APs, AEs and researchers.
Must have strong editorial judgement –– will occasionally need to work autonomously and occasionally guide junior staff
Proficient editing in Premiere
Can write scripts, research and report stories, and source/verify social video.
Experience working on digital platforms with an understanding of SEO and social media.
Have strong communication and coordination skills to work alongside different desks at The Times.
A flexible schedule with availability on weekends, as well as mornings, evenings or holidays as the news warrants.
