DESCRIPTION:
The Coordinating Producer manages and advises 3rd party and in-house production teams: trains and supervises associate producers, facilitates shoots at Smithsonian locations, and manages production and edit calendars to ensure timely and accurate deliverables for Mission Critical programs. She, or he, serves as a key liaison between the Smithsonian Institution and Channel editorial and marketing teams for the development, production and promotion/marketing of Mission Critical and other programming.
Specific Responsibilities:
• Production of in-house and 3rd party Mission Critical programs - Coordinates and provides supervision for Mission Critical and in-house production.
• Mission Critical/Smithsonian related Program Development and Smithsonian Relations - Develops program ideas, assesses Smithsonian proposals, helps assemble and manage production teams. Manages Smithsonian Network Review Committee obligations and handles Smithsonian Institution requests.
• Coordination - Assists SVP of Production and Executive Producer of Mission Critical Programming with long-term planning. Maintains Smithsonian Institution related databases. Manages orientation for production companies working for Smithsonian Networks for the first time.
• Marketing - Key liaison role in developing/coordinating ways to promote programs with marketing team. Provides editorial promotional material to SI. Initiates and facilitates cross promotional opportunities between Smithsonian Institution and Channel, including screenings.
• Production Internship Program - Supervises active internship program, selecting candidates and working with production coordinator to creating an enriching experience that benefits interns and the channel.
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Must have approximately five years experience in long-form non-fiction television production for national broadcast. Should have served as Associate Producer, or Producer, of quality, ratings-winning programming.
• Experience in story development, rights and clearances
• A flair for promoting programs through events and marketing is also valued. Bachelor’s degree or equivalent preferred, higher graduate degree viewed favorably.
• Thorough knowledge of television production process, from development through post-production, including: Extensive experience in field production and shoot preparationExcellent writing and marketing skills and story-development experience
• Knowledge of production and post-production technology and process
• Knowledge of industry standards for rights and clearances
