JOB SUMMARY/PURPOSE:
The communications specialist will serve as the webmaster and primary contact for all aspects of the company’s digital properties, handling a range of responsibilities that includes web design, routine website and content maintenance and various updates to ensure sites align with the organization’s goals and objectives. The specialist will work collaboratively within the communications department – specifically within the corporate and executive communications team – and in consultation with internal business partners to develop and execute ongoing and campaign-specific communications that support the company’s vision, mission, brand and strategic endeavors. This individual will publish a significant volume of written and multimedia content and manage digital communications platforms and channels.
JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Serves as the primary contact for all aspects of the organization’s websites.
- Maintains internet properties, forms and structures in accordance with the organization’s needs and in consultation with the communications department, legal, regulatory, information technology and other departments, as necessary.
- Encourages and facilitates consistent, creative and unified web design across the organization’s web properties and in alignment with the organization’s brand voice.
- Counsels company leaders and other employees on digital communication best practices, user experience, and strategic PR design and execution for web.
- Collects and analyzes web analytics and similar data; identifies opportunities to improve search engine optimization or SEO, web traffic, audience time on sites and other relevant metrics.
- Maintains a regular and positive working relationship with the outside website vendor and partners with them to make design and structural updates as necessary.
- Maintains and documents ownership of company’s digital web properties and Internet domains.
- Maintains current knowledge of and best practices and emerging developments in web design, user experience, SEO and web technologies.
- Ensures compliance with all company policies, procedures, and ethical standards.
- Supports storm and crisis communications efforts and performs other related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Minimum education required of the position
Bachelor's degree in web communications, public relations, computer science or a related field or equivalent experience. Coursework in website design, copywriting for web, digital media and/or computer programming highly preferred.
Minimum experience required of the position
Communications Specialist II - 3-5+ years of experience
Sr. Communications Specialist – 5-7+ years of experience
Minimum knowledge, skills and abilities required of the position
- Understanding of HTML and CSS or other forms of website coding.
- An attention to detail and strong organizational, planning and prioritization skills.
- Ability to use or learn an array of publishing software such as Office 365, web content management systems and Photoshop.
