The Regional Investment Banking (RIB) team focuses on capital raising and strategic advisory for private and public companies in the mid-cap space, in particular Company and Chase commercial banking clients with revenue typically between $500 million and $2 billion. The RIB group is organized regionally, with offices in New York, Chicago, Dallas, Los Angeles, Atlanta, San Francisco, Houston and the Washington D.C. area. The Los Angeles team is responsible for covering clients on the West Coast and partners closely with industry specialists and product experts across the Company organization to provide clients with a broad range of investment banking products. Clients span multiple industries such as Consumer/Retail, Diversified Industries, Energy, Financial Sponsors, Healthcare, Media & Communications, Metals & Mining, Real Estate/Gaming/Lodging, and Technology.
Role and Responsibilities
The Managing Director will serve as a leader and supervisor of deal teams for RIB clients and transactions on the West Coast as well as other RIB regions. This individual must be recognized by clients as a leading member of their relationship team as well as the driver of M&A execution. S/he will leverage and coordinate the full capabilities of Company’s investment banking resources on behalf of clients. In this capacity, one must be a world class banker while partnering across all of Company Chase’s platforms to anticipate and win new business opportunities. Additionally, the ability to productively and efficiently interact with the JPM relationship bankers will be key to sustaining a long-term successful RIB M&A effort.
Responsibilities will include but not be limited to the following:
Participate in and support client marketing activities and idea generation.
Partner with RIB coverage bankers in San Francisco and other RIB offices to build long-term client relationships and develop senior-level dialogue around M&A topics including acquisitions, divestitures, activism preparedness and defense, and strategic alternatives.
Work independently, producing high quality work by leveraging and accessing all of the capabilities and resources of Company Chase.
Keen attention to detail while maintaining a broad strategic advisory perspective.
Actively contribute to furthering the successful partnership at Company between RIB and M&A
Minimum 15 years of IB experience with significant required in executing mergers & acquisitions at a bulge bracket financial institution or leading investment banking boutique.
Possess strategic and market insights which will help source and identify opportunities based on a variety of economic, industry and company-specific variables.
Comfortable operating as an generalist in an environment where credit has historically driven the client relationship.
History of successful transaction execution; comfortable working within a major bank across business divisions and in a matrixed reporting structure.
Technical and functional excellence in M&A. Up to date on business valuation methodologies, as well as understanding key issues such as tax, foreign exchange, financing, and accounting variables that drive and impact transactions.
Top caliber M&A skills with the ability to assess, negotiate and close transactions.
Broad market view and the ability to distill and communicate information in a cogent, clear and concise manner.
Bachelors’ degree from a reputable university; MBA is preferred.
The ideal candidate is a creative, innovative team player. It is critical that the Managing Director be able to relate well to client relationship partners and develop good working relationships with these individuals. It is also important that this person display maturity, good judgment and an ability to work with professionals at all levels inside JPMC. Strong analytical, technical problem solving, planning and organizational skills are a must. These abilities must be evident on an individual level and as this person directs other project members.
The candidate will be passionate about JPM’s Regional Investment Banking effort and mid-cap clients and be willing to take on challenges out of their comfort zone.
It is expected that the Managing Director will demonstrate leadership qualities that are team-oriented and collegial. The ability to delegate effectively and pay attention to detail while maintaining a high level of productivity will be important.
The Managing Director must have strong interpersonal skills and be able to communicate effectively in presentations; expressing complex financial strategies in an organized and articulate manner.
