Ensures benefit calculations within claims are accurate by utilizing appropriate income/financial information. Will conduct prompt and thorough analysis of calculations for disability benefits, offset management, coordinate the recovery and repayment of overpaid benefits and provide vendor management of recovery agencies. This is all conducted while adhering to both internal and external regulations and ensuring an industry leading customer experience. This role has a direct impact on the success of Workplace Solutions from both a financial and persistency (customer retention) perspective.
Essential Job Functions:
Accurately determines financial claim payment based on salary and other income sources. Role is responsible for accurate and timely calculations of claims. Performs calculations which may be complex and rely on experience and judgment.
Requires a high level of independent decision making and critical thinking to complete initial and ongoing benefit calculations for long-term disability (LTD) and short-term disability (STD). This includes analyzing the information received, determining if additional information is required in order to complete the calculation.
Remains abreast to and complies with all related Federal, State, and Industry laws and regulations, as well as, changes in internal processes and procedures.
Contacts claimants to explain calculations and repayment of overpaid benefits; processes or requests claim overpayment refunds and makes repayment arrangements as needed.
Collaborates with internal and external Social Security representatives regarding awards.
Contacts the collection agency; makes collection arrangements for non-responding claimants.
Answers benefit calculation inquiries from internal and external callers.
Enters and updates overpayment record or data in claims management system.
Demonstrates flexibility and ability to execute unique customer requirements.
Discretionary authority to commit to decisions that have financial impacts.
Responsibility to troubleshoot, problem solve and make recommendations concerning policies and procedures. Contributes ideas and work effort to projects focused on improvements in current processes to drive increased effectiveness and efficiency.
Receives and responds to email communications, answers calculation inquiries from internal partners, develops effective working relationships.
Supports the development and maintenance of a fair and equitable working environment.
Ability to perform high volume work that may be stressful at times.
Ability to train others as needed.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Exhibits strong analytical skills, common sense and a grasp of industry knowledge. Demonstrates a pro-active inclination to maintain strong controls to financial leakage/mitigate operational risk. Understands basic monthly earning calculation principles and practices.
This position requires sitting over 66% of the time.
This position requires Visual Acuity at 20 inches (or less) over 66% of the time.
College Degree or equivalent experience
Knowledge of or aptitude to learn disability claims processes and benefit calculations
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Strong interpersonal skills.
Strong persuasion and negotiation skills and ability to handle conflict on an ongoing basis.
Flexibility and desire to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
Strong mathematical, analytical, critical thinking, problem solving, and decision making skills, with strong attention to detail.
