THE ROLE
We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Designer to join the Bags department at Topshop. This is a fast paced and competitive role and we are looking for applications from existing Designers.
WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING DAY TO DAY
• Working as part of the Topshop Design team as the Topshop Bags Designer
• Collate and use information/research on current & future trends as well as colour, fabric and styling to drive product and range development for the customer, working alongside buying whilst doing so
• Review past performance, visit fairs, shows, competition and directional shops etc. to keep up to date with new design developments e.g. key/new fabrics and attending ‘Best and Worst’ Sellers meeting to keep commercially aware and in touch with the customer
• Work with the Buyers, Merchandisers, Marketing, PR and Technical Services to contribute in developing product strategy, which can be translated into specific products for the range that have the right level of commerciality and excitement
• Develop the range to make sure it evolves to meet the needs of the customer. This entails evaluating the success of designs, visiting branches, researching competition and working closely with the B&M team to draw conclusions from trading results, trails and emerging trends
• Establish a close relationship with key suppliers and with the Buyer and Technical Services team to ensure these suppliers have the relevant information
• Consistently drive the department forward developing fabrics and product initiatives
MUST HAVES
• Has experience of operating as a Designer within a retail forum for a number of seasons and has multi-product experience, particularly within casual areas
• Displays fast reaction to product development and reacts quickly
• Works effectively with others and is able to influence and communicate at all levels including senior management and directors
• Excellent team-working skills
• Confident to challenge ideas/decisions and be challenged
• Commercially aware with a strong understanding of the high street and trends
• Performs under pressure and operates well in a fast past environment
• Adapts to change and will redefine goals if necessary
• Excellent problem solving skills – puts forward different solutions to tackle an issue and will take responsibility for the decision
• Ambition and drive to progress
• Experience in designing the required category is essential
