Summary
The Associate is responsible for the acquisition, integration, and analysis of all relevant data pertaining to a prospective investment, working toward objectives which best meet the investment goals of Company Ventures. Monitors domestic and international macro-economic and social trends, considers their effect on individual investments and the portfolio to ensure the successful planning and outcomes for Company Ventures. Serves as a point of contact and key driver of commercial relationships with Company Corp, Company Cable, and NBCU. Cultivates internal relationships to mutually benefit Company and the portfolio companies. The Associate will be based in our new office in the LA area.
Main Responsibilities
• Source and identify compelling private company investment candidates that align with our investment thesis areas and attributes
• Build financial models, pro formas, and investment cases for target investment prospects, including but not limited, financial sensitivity analysis, distribution of exit outcomes and returns, marketing sizing and growth analysis bottoms up, private and public company financial comps analysis, and key performance indicator (KPI) analysis
• Work closely with Partners leading investment deals and support all aspects of deal sourcing, comprehensive due diligence, transaction processing, closure, reporting, and portfolio support
• Regularly network with entrepreneurs, management teams, engineers, and UX designers and institutionalize professional network to advance the mission
• Provide coordination and support for existing portfolio companies
• Solve problems as they arise with creative yet professional thinking
• Serve as a conduit and business development leader for commercial deals and opportunities between Company Ventures' portfolio companies and Company & NBCU
Core Responsibilities
• Analyzes and evaluates potential investments, potential acquisitions or divestitures, and other investments as they relate to organization objectives
• Evaluates long-term equity or joint venture investments
• Recommends strategies that will maximize return within acceptable risk parameters
• Ensures investments plans are aligned with business objectives
• Consistent exercise of independent judgment and discretion in matters of significance
• Regular, consistent and punctual attendance. Must be able to work nights and weekends, variable schedule(s) as necessary
• Other duties and responsibilities as assigned
Additional Preferences
• BA or BS from top-tier University, ideally in Economics, Engineering, or a technical degree preferred
• Minimum of 2 years of investment banking, private equity, or related experience
• Minimum 1 year of startup, operating, corporate development, or venture capital experience
• Willing to be based in Santa Monica, CA and work in a lean team
• Strong work ethic
• Strong local, LA professional network among startup entrepreneurs
• Strong EQ for identifying talented entrepreneurs and management teams
• Strong software products sensibility and personal interest experience with social, marketplaces, and data analytics products is a plus
• Exceptional presentation skills, both in presenting verbally and in the creation of the decks
• Deep financial analysis experience including KPI and key ratios analyses, and the ability to model growth options for private companies
• Ability to deconstruct complex business problems and technology company operations into key distilled drivers of success
• Open to mentorship and eager to learn
• Works well in small and large group settings
• Very collaborative with team members with a strong inclination to help others
• Great sense of humor and proclivity to teamwork; voracious appetite to learn new things and constantly read; excellent professional judgment and discretion in matters of significance
• Willing to travel as needed
Education/Professional Requirements
• Masters Degree or Equivalent
• Generally requires 9+ years related experience
