Department Description:
UC Davis Extension is the continuing and professional education division of UC Davis. In this capacity, UC Davis Extension partners with campus schools, colleges and faculty to create global access to the distinctive knowledge and resources of UC Davis. UC Davis Extension instructors include outstanding faculty from across UC Davis as well as distinctive working professionals in a wide variety of disciplines. Last year, UC Davis Extension recorded nearly 58,000 enrollments in more than 3,000 classes, serving students from all 50 states and 105 countries. Courses are offered onsite and online in a variety of formats, including short courses, conferences, certificate programs and self-supporting master's degrees. Courses are open to the public and offered on a contract basis through partnerships with private companies, government agencies and international peer universities. UC Davis Extension is completely self-supporting, generating more than $40 million in annual revenue from course fees, public and private contracts and grants. Each year UC Davis Extension contributes more than $9 million to UC Davis in the form of revenue shared with partner schools and colleges, fees and assessments, and course discounts extended to staff and faculty. As an academic unit of the University, UC Davis Extension employs over 230 employees (career, academic, contract & limited) and more than 60 student employees during peak periods, and draws on the expertise of over 400 by agreement instructors.

Position Details
Job Summary:
Under the general direction of the Assistant Dean for Finance, responsible for the day to day operations and work of the Financial Services team. Support the development and achievement of the UC Davis Extension's goals and objectives by providing accurate, relevant and timely information to senior management that is based upon thorough review and analysis. Responsible for all fiscal affairs, financial forecasting and planning, financial controls, financial analytics, annual and multi-year financial and budget planning, expense management, operating plan variance analysis, working capital (cash flow analysis and management), capital project planning & analysis and financial and non-financial business performance metrics. In addition, responsible for executing changes to enhance management reporting/analysis, analysis and planning of teaching resources, academic FTE planning and analysis, supporting business intelligence initiatives and automating reporting processes. Acts on behalf of Assistant Dean, in his absence, regarding all fiscal, budget & planning affairs of the school, and is the primary staff resource person for all fiscal and budget activities of the school.

Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Finance, Accounting, Analytics or related field and/or equivalent work experience.
Extensive related work experience in financial planning and analysis, consulting and/or strategic planning within a university, public or private institution.
Knowledge of and experience with business analytics tools.
Extensive quantitative skills and skills to interpret financial data including financial statements, key financial ratios, valuation models and techniques.
In-depth analytical skills and skills to convey complex concepts.
Attention to detail with strategic and tactical insight.
Advanced Excel and PowerPoint skills.
Strong task orientation balanced with excellent teamwork, listening skills, diplomacy and problem solving skills.
Organizational skills to work on projects with competing deadlines and to independently establish goals and workload priorities.
Advanced written and oral communications skills. Skills to interact with others in a professional manner and communicate technical information, including complex concepts and/or financial models, clearly and concisely to another person or to a group.
Proficiency in MS Office applications. Experience with automated financial and payroll/personnel systems and automated financial systems.
Experience in managing multiple fund sources with complex restrictions.

Preferred Qualifications:
Ability to be resourceful and work independently.
MBA and/or CPA is highly preferred.
Experience with Oracle EBS, Hyperion Planning, Hyperion Financial Reports including development of Hyperion applications and Oracle Data Integrator (ODI) and / or Financial Data Management.
Knowledge of budgetary cycle and practices (DaFIS, PPS and both Decision Support Systems). Ability to learn new systems as required.
Mathematical skills to calculate, analyze and adjust direct and indirect costs, and cost sharing percentages.
Knowledge of accounting procedures with diverse fund restrictions and fund accounting
Knowledge of funding agency and University regulations and guidelines; budgetary cycles; and relationship to School's research programs.
Ability to learn the unit's professional and financial objectives and activities.
