The Company, Department of Animal Resources seeks a detailed-oriented professional to join its team as an Accountant I .The Accountant I will perform a variety of accounting duties (i.e. processes, reconciles, monitors and reports accounting activity for the department).
The Accountant I is responsible for providing Accounts receivable and Accounts payable support for the Director’s Office in an effective and efficient manner. Duties include clerical support, answering the phone, data entry, typing letters and correspondence.
Monitors, reviews and verifies accounting records and transactions for accuracy, timeliness and adequacy of supporting documentation. Ensures compliance with internal policies, agency rules and regulations, and generally accepted accounting principles
Determines current financial balances to produce schedules, summary reports, income statements, and/or other account and financial documents. Prepares financial reports from available accounting data following prescribed formats, as needed. Reviews and analyzes reports for accuracy prior to distribution
Identifies problems and interacts with internal and/or external contacts, as required, to correct deficiencies and/or discrepancies. Rejects and returns documentation as appropriate
Monitors blanket requisition charges and itemizes expenses
Advises on university financial policies and procedures, agency laws and regulations, and generally accepted accounting principles
Maintains currency with laws and regulations governing accounting policies and procedures
Serves as a resource for funding agencies and/or other organizations to provide requested or required financial information and reports. Clarifies or researches issues as necessary
Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Field of Expertise:
Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles including fund accounting
Bachelors of Science Degree in Accounting
2 years of directly related accounting experience
Intermediate Level of Skill in Microsoft Excel
Excellent communication and customer service skills
Experience in dealing with varying levels of clients
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while balancing and prioritizing multiple projects and perform well under pressure
Ability to learn and adapt quickly.
