CHHS academic advisors are responsible for providing academic advising to current pre-majors and minor undergraduate students within the college?s academic programs and to prospective high school and transfer students. Academic advisors teach a freshmen course and/or other courses related to student success and retention (49er Rebound, Prospect for Success courses, etc.). The academic advisor works collaboratively with University Office of Admissions to provide information to prospective students during the University open house (EXPLORE) and orientation and registration for new students during selected Student Orientation, Advising and Registration (SOAR) sessions. Within the Advising Center, each academic advisor functions as a liaison to one or more academic units in disseminating information to and from the academic units within the College. In addition, the academic advisor is involved in university service through participating in the Academic Advising Improvement Team, and other university or college committees related to academic advising, student success, retention and graduation. S/he assists unit academic administrators and the Senior Associate Dean in recruitment activities as determined. As the College's Advising Systems Specialist, the position plays a critical role in allowing Company to fully leverage the potential of advising systems to foster student success. At the University level, as part of the Advising Specialist team, they will develop common strategies for implementation and will also weigh in on systems management questions. S/he assists unit academic administrators and the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs in recruitment activities as determined.
Education: Masters? degree in student services, health and human services or related field. Experience: 3 years of full-time academic advising experience in higher education (college or university); competent in email, Word, and one student services software (Banner, SIS). Excellent oral and written communication skills. Experience with advising systems technology.
